NdW 45|18: Dalmore, G&M, Inverleven, Glenrothes, Benromach, Fusion, Black Rock, James Eadie

Im NdW 45|18: Da haben sich gleich drei Schwergewichte angekündigt: ein 40-jähriger Dalmore, ein 33-jähriger Inverleven und ein 44-jähriger Glenrothes. Aber auch für unseren Geldbeutel ist etwas dabei: Benromach aus dem Château Cissac Bordeaux Weinfass, eine zweite Ausgabe der Winter Queen, Batch 5 vom Black Rock und sechs neue Abfüllungen von James Eadie. Und die SMWS hat heute wieder ein neues Outturn online gestellt. Ihr werdet fündig – da bin ich mir sicher.

Benromach

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Benromach Château Cissac Bordeaux Wood Finish 2010 is matured in First Fill Bourbon barrels in the distillery’s traditional dunnage warehouses in Forres, Speyside. This expression is then finished for just over two years in Château Cissac wine casks, hand-selected from the illustrious French wine region of Haut-Médoc near Bordeaux.“

Offizielle Tasting Notes

Dark gold in colour, the influence of the wine casks is immediately apparent on the nose. On tasting, the initial pepper is followed by sweet vanilla, creamy milk chocolates, hints of red wine tannins and peat smoke. Deeper hints of bonre embers are complemented by Brazil nuts and gorgeous cocoa flavours.

Winter Queen

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „The Scotch elements include whisky from Bowmore, Mortlach and Teaninich distilleries. The Dutch whisky is from Zuidam and the youngest whisky is 19 years old. The Winter Queen follows Fusion Whisky’s previous releases, The Glover, The E&K and The Brisbane. Each of the whiskies celebrates an influential Scot who had a positive influence in the country the partner whisky is sourced. Today’s release is the second expression of The Winter Queen, which was launched in February this year. This historic second edition was released today to commemorate the coronation of Scottish princess Elizabeth Stuart, who was crowned Queen of Bohemia 399 years ago today. [07.11.18]“

Dies ist die zweite Abfüllung der Winter Queen. Wieder Scotch mit Niederländischem Whisky. Wie die anderen oben genannten wurde diese Abfüllung von Fusion Whisky in Zusammenarbeit mit Adelphi hergestellt. Die erste wurde hier vorgestellt: NdW 08|18.

Offizielle Tasting Notes

• Colour: Mahogany in colour, with amber lights.
• Nose: Slightly nose drying, with blueberry compote, saddle soap and a dusting of coffee powder. Maritime notes also start to become apparent (moss and driftwood).
• Taste: To taste, Parma Violets with highland toffee and touch of smoke creeping through.
• Finish: A long finish with hints of dark chocolate and freshly ground coffee in abundance.

Dalmore

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Wie alle Whiskys aus dem Hause The Dalmore reift auch dieses exklusive Schmuckstück zunächst in ehemaligen Bourbon-Fässern aus amerikanischer Weißeiche, bevor er von Paterson veredelt wird. Das Destillat wurde 2008 in 30-jährigen Gonzalez Byass Matusalem Oloroso Sherry Fässer umgelagert. Dort reifte der Whisky sieben Jahre zu einem der einzigartigsten Whiskys heran, der seine Vollendung schließlich in neuen Bourbon-Fässern fand, bevor er im Jahr 2017 abgefüllt wurde.“

Nun ganz günstig ist er nicht. Aber wenn alles gut geht, werde ich den auf der Interwhisky während einer Masterclass probieren. Eine wohl einmalige Chance, denn bei der exklusiven Vorstellung in der Whiskybotschaft war ich leider nicht dabei. Ab sofort ist der Dalmore in Deutschland erhältlich. Vom Dalmore 45yo (NdW 22|18) kamen nur 10 Dekanter nach Deutschland – der kostet(e) auch ca.  11.600.- EUR.

• Aroma: vollmundiger kolumbianischer Kaffee, süße Sultaninen, frische Datteln und englische Marmelade
• Gaumen: Lebkuchen, Melasse, Ahornsirup und mit Manuka Honig beträufelten Brioche
• Finish: Sanguinello Blutorange, überreife Bramley Äpfel, Lakritz und getrocknete Kokosnuss

G&M – Inverleven

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „In 1985, Gordon & MacPhail sent Cask 562, a refill bourbon barrel, to the Inverleven Distillery located in Dumbarton within the area known in whisky terms as the ‘Scottish Lowlands’. The distillery had been making spirit for only forty-seven years and new-make would only flow for another six years before the Inverleven still was mothballed. The site was demolished in 2002, never to produce again. Cask 562, a refill bourbon barrel, had an outturn of 130 bottles.“

• Colour: Dark Gold
• AROMAS: Intense tropical fruit aromas to begin – cooked pineapple, honeydew melon, coconut cream, and little burst of sharp yet sweet lime. A sweet creaminess continues with notes of vanilla ice-cream, sugared red apples, apricot jam, and white chocolate. Hints of overripe cherry and almond marzipan develop into flowering gorse.
• FLAVOURS: Creamy and mouth-coating; warming white pepper notes transform into sweet flambéed banana, Madagascan vanilla pod, and salted toffee. Subtle spicy undertones remain as toasted malt comes to the fore; a drying cocoa and charred oak edge develops.
• FINISH: A long and lingering charred oak finish with a subtle floral edge.

G&M – Glenrothes

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „The second ‘Private Collection’ release dates back to 1974 when a refill Sherry puncheon was filled at Glenrothes Distillery in Speyside. Cask 18440, a refill Sherry puncheon, had an outturn of 276 bottles.“

• Colour: Mahogany
• AROMAS: Complex; aromas of Sherry soaked fruitcake filled with stewed sultanas mingle with sticky Medjool dates. Dark chocolate and citrus peel notes develop; a gentle woodiness with a delicate herbal edge comes to the fore.
• FLAVOURS: Elegant, smooth, and sweet; Subtle cinnamon and nutmeg flavours balance the mature oak and Sherry influences. Notes of fruit and nut chocolate and hints of raisin and toasted walnut emerge and evolve into zesty citrus. Salted toffee develops towards the end.
• FINISH: A modest, medium sweet finish fades; hints of charred oak and chocolate remain.

Black Rock

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Diesmal wurde ein 9 Jahre alter Single Grain ausgewählt, der dreifach destilliert wurde. Single Grain Whiskey bringt man nur selten mit Irland in Verbindung, da der Großteil des Grain Whiskeys in blended Whiskeys landet. Hier ist es gelungen ein besonderes Fass Grain Whiskey abzufüllen. Ein besonders komplexer und ausdrucksstarker Whiskey wurde gebottelt.“

• Nase: Eichenholz und Röstaromen mit einem Hauch von Haselnuss.
• Geschmack: Am Gaumen strömt Küstenluft rein, untermalt von süßem Toffee und einem Hauch von in Rum getränkten Rosinen.
• Nachklang: Mandel, Haselnuss, ölig-cremige Konsistenz,  Torf und ein Hauch von frischen Minzblättern.

SMWS
