Da hat sich Einiges angesammelt. Ein Irischer Blend: Clonakilty. Aus der Spirit & Cask Serie gibt es eine neue Version von Maximum Peat und El Maximo (Sherry). Tomatin bringt die fehlenden beiden aus der Five Virtues Serie: Metal und Water. Die Whiskybotschaft stellt die dritte private Edition vor: einen 10-jährigen Ledaig mit Bordeaux Cask Finish. Fusion stellt einen weiteren ungewöhnlichen Blend vor: The Winter Queen. Hier wurden schottische und niederländischer Whisky geblendet. Glenrothes hat zum Chinesischen Neujahr eine Sonderverpackung für Sammler vorgestellt. GlenDronach stellt das Batch 16 in seiner Single Cask Serie vor.

Clonakilty

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Obwohl die Clonakilty Distillery noch nicht in Betrieb ist, brachte Brennereieigner Michael Scully eine Abfüllung auf den Markt. Ein sehr ausgewogener Blend von 8- bis 10-jährigen Grain und Single Malt Whiskeys anderer irischer Brennereien. Nachdem die Whiskeys vermählt wurden, durften sie ihre Flitterwochen in Virgin Oak Casks verbringen. Durch das Finish hat der Whiskey nochmals eine besondere Komplexität erhalten. Der Whiskey wird in kleinen Chargen hergestellt. 

Das Gebäude der Destillerie steht bereits, auch die Brennblasen sind schon bestellt und im ersten Halbjahr 2018 soll die Destillerie in Betrieb genommen werden. Die Familie Scully betreibt seit der 8. Generation Gerstenfelder am Fuße des Galley Head Leuchtturms. Durch das mediterrane Klima an der Atlantikküste verleiht dem Korn ein besonderes Aroma. Diese Gerste wird für die Herstellung des Whiskeys verwendet werden. Clonakilty Distillery wird sich auf die Herstellung von Single Malt und Single Pot Still Whiskey konzentrieren. Bereits jetzt schon haben sie ein Lagerhaus direkt an der Küste, in dem bereits einige tolle Whiskeyfässer liegen und darauf warten abgefüllt zu werden. Auch der zukünftige Whiskey aus der eigenen Destillerie wird in diesen Warenhäusern lagern. Die Lage direkt an der Küste verleiht dem Whiskey einen einzigartigen Geschmack.“

Tasting Notes von Julia Nourney

• Farbe: leicht golden
• Nase: sanfte Würznoten, Vanille, Getreidefelder an einem warmen Sommertag, reife Früchte wie Äpfel, Birne und Ananas, Zesten von Orangen
• Gaumen: wieder Gewürze, aber dismal mit mehr schwarzem Pfeffer und Ingwer, immer noch getreidig und reife Früchte. Später kommen Röstaromen von Haselnuss und Mandeln und etwas weiches Leder entwickelt sich. Insgesamt sehr klar und weich. Da der Whiskey nur eine kurze Zeit im American Oak Fass lagerte, bleiben die Holzaromen im Hintergrund und haben nur eine unterstützende Rolle
• Nachklang: der Whiskey bleibt elegant und nicht zu intensiv, aber die Würznoten bleiben und kommen immer wieder in Wellen
• Bemerkung: ein leicht zu trinkender Whisky, der zu jeder Gelegenheit passt und klare irische Whiskeynoten zeigt.

Maximum Peat

Original Tasting Notes:

• Nase: Lederjacke an Holzkohlefeuer, eher feiner Rauch als dreckig-speckiger, Glut, Kaminfeuer
• Geschmack: Feingliedriger, angenehmer Rauch, ungewöhnliche Samtigkeit, mehr Holzkohle
• Nachklang: Wärmend und mundfüllend, geschmeidig und samtweich

El Maximo

Original Tasting Notes:

• Nase: Holznoten, eingelegte Rosinen, Weihnachtsstollen, kandierte Früchte, vor allem Orange und Orangenschale, wunderbar würzig mit feiner Süße
• Geschmack: Explosion im Mund mit rosa Pfeffer, Weihnachtsgewürzen und gebrannten Mandeln, hintenraus Orangenschale
• Nachklang: Orangenschale mit der Süße von Akatzienhonig

Tomatin – Five Virtues

• Wood has been aged in French, American and Hungarian oak casks.
• Fire is matured in heavily charred oak, simulating fresh vanilla flavours.
• Earth exhibits rich and intense peaty flavours as a consequence of maturing in peat-dried malted barley casks.
• Metal is expressed by the distillery’s 12 copper stills.
• Water is distinguished by the naturally pure soft water from the Alt-na-Frith burn

Every drop of Tomatin whisky flows through the uniquely shaped and sized stills, giving the whisky its own distinctive characteristics. Metal is matched with classic first fill Bourbon barrels, demonstrating the definitive Tomatin style.

Completing the series is Water, inspired by the water from the Alt-na- Frith burn; Tomatin’s private water source. The soft and pure water is drawn year round but this particular edition employs a winter-distilled spirit and Sherry butts to enrich the final flavour.“

Original Tasting Notes METAL

• Nose – Soft, creamy vanilla with sweet chocolate and Macadamia nuts.
• Taste – Citrus notes come to the fore with sweet spices.
• Finish – Typically Tomatin; soft, sweet and light.

Original Tasting Notes WATER

• Nose – Mature fruity flavours with chocolate honeycomb.
• Taste – Rich toffee and marzipan with blood orange marmalade.
• Finish – Warming with a long and oily finish.

Whiskybotschaft – Ledaig

Die Abfüllung für die Whiskybotschaft stammt von Signatory und wurde nach einem Bordeaux Cask Finish in Fassstärke abgefüllt. Noch gibt es einen Sonderpreis.

Aus der Ankündigung: „Der Ledaig aus der Tobermory Distillery lagerte ca. 10 Jahre in einem Bourbon Cask und erhielt danach ein 8 monatiges Finishing in einem französischen Bordeaux Weinfass. Diese Kombination der Reifung hat ihm neben einer wunderbaren Farbe ein sehr komplexes, ungewöhnliches Aromenprofil verliehen. Er wurde natürlich absolut unverändert abgefüllt, d.h. nicht kühlfiltriert, keine Zugabe von Farbstoffen und in Fassstärke mit 59,7% Alkohol.“

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „The whisky both celebrates and tells the story of Elizabeth Stuart, a remarkable, but largely unheard of, Scottish princess who was daughter of King James VI and I and Queen Anne of Denmark. Born in Fife, she was Queen of Bohemia for one year, but lived in exile in The Hague. Described as “more politically cunning than her grandmother, Mary, Queen of Scots, and more belligerent than her godmother, Elizabeth I,” she was feisty, witty, shrewd and charming. She was also grandmother to Charles I and is the “missing link” between the Stuart and Hanoverian thrones. And she was caught up in the Gunpowder Plot.“

• Appearance: Deep amber mahogany.
• Nose: Robust and earthy with chocolate dates, sweet mincepies and earthy vines, mocha walnut and a hint of coal smoke.
• Palate: Succulent sultanas open to fruitcake soaked in sherry, leaving lingering mulled wine, plum skin and gently smoked walnut.

• Appearance: Polished mahogany.
• Nose: Dark chocolate, cherry liqueur and sultana give way to polished oak and waxed oilskin with traces of birch tar.

• Appearance: Golden walnut brown.
• Nose: Fruit and nut chocolate with stewed fruit and oiled oak dipped in crème brulee.

• Appearance: Rich mahogany gold.
• Nose: Stone fruit, fine leather and morello cherry cake with a trace of cigar box with piquante Valencia orange oil and rolling tobacco.

• Appearance: Treacle.
• Nose: Mellow chocolate-coated Brazil nut, dates and dried apple, with ripe plum and rhubarb, dark chocolate caramel and ginger.
• Palate: The refined taste of old sherry casks with dates, treacle and prune syrup leaving traces of dark chocolate ginger in the finish.

• Appearance: Brown-tinged mahogany.
• Nose: An oak-panelled room with baked gingerbread, old brandy and mulled red wine with chestnuts and game roasted on an open fire.

• Appearance: Antique copper with an intense ruby hue.
• Nose: The nesse of dark chocolate, sweet maraschino cherries and orange-laced sandalwood on a base of toasted angelica.
• Palate: Sip ripe bramble, Seville orange and baked cherry cake carried by the nest dark chocolate. Savour lingering hints of roast chestnut, chocolate orange and sweet cherry liqueur, lifted by cleansing mint chocolate.

• Appearance: Tawny rose gold.
• Nose: Enticing notes of baked nectarine and dried fig emerge with smooth chocolate hazelnut and maple syrup. Cedarwood and oven-baked gingerbread simmer in the background with winter spices.
• Palate: Baked nectarine and plum meld with ginger and toasted walnut in an oven-baked dessert, leaving cedarwood and orange liqueur lingering into the finish.

• Appearance: Tawny amber.
• Nose: Sticky PX sherry with layers of toasted cedarwood and chocolate orange on a base of cinnamon spiced bramble jam and baked plum.
• Palate: Nutmeg-spiced bramble toffee and clementine burst on the palate, carried on a velvet wave of cocoa and wood resin. Cranberry, hazelnut and raisin linger into the perfectly balanced sweet and dry finish.
