Teeling kündigt die zweite Ausgabe des Brabazon an. Laphroaig macht eine offizielle Ankündigung zum 15-jährigen Cairdeas, der seit ein paar Wochen bereits im Shop erhältlich ist. Der Peatheart von anCnoc wird auch in Deutschland mit 900 Flaschen verfügbar sein. BenRiach kündigt den Authenticus als 30-jährige (getorfte) Abfüllung an. Und Hunter Laing bringt acht neue Abfüllung aus der Serie OMC in den Handel.

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Die zweite Ausgabe der Brabazon Bottling Serie besteht aus einer Reihe behutsam ausgewählter Whiskeys, die insgesamt in sechs verschiedenen Port-Fässern zu einem vollmundigen Premium Irish Single Malt reifen. So verleiht ein Single Malt, anfänglich in Ex-Bourbon Fässern gereift und anschließend für zwei Jahre in Tawny Port-Fässern gelagert, eine Fülle an extravaganten Noten von dunkler Schokolade und Zimt. Darüber hinaus besteht Brabazon Bottling No.2 aus Single Malts, deren Reifung in White Port Fässern diese Sonderabfüllung mit leichten Zitrusnoten ausstattet. Abgerundet wird Brabazon Bottling No2. von einem Single Malt, der in Ruby Port Fässern lagerte und der Sonderabfüllung einen komplexen, tiefen Körper verleiht.“

Offizielle Tasting Notes

• Nase: reichhaltige Zimtnoten, dunkle Schokolade, gebratener Apfel und karamellisierte Orange.
• Geschmack: samtige Fülle aus ausgeprägten Noten Europäischer Eiche, Vanille, Ananas, würzig karamellisierte Äpfel und Süße der Muskatnuss.
• Nachhall: trocken mit Noten von Fruchtbonbon, Nelke und anhaltendem Hauch von Seesalz.

Laphroaig

Die diesjährige Cairdeas Abfüllung war ein Quarter Cask in Fassstärke. Jetzt wurde noch eine zweite „Cairdeas“ (steht für Freundschaft) Abfüllung für die FoL (Friends of Laphroaig; kostenloses Mitgliedsprogramm) offiziell angekündigt. Im Shop ist sie bereits seit ein paar Wochen. Der normale 15-jährige wurde eingestellt, zum Jubiläum in 2015 einmalig neu aufgelegt und evtl. kommt er jetzt wieder.

Infos aus dem Shop: „Our Distillery Manager John Campbell crafts another Laphroaig Cairdeas 15 year old as a limited edition to celebrate friendship (“Cairdeas” in Gaelic), which is an ongoing part of the Friends of Laphroaig program. This year’s edition was distilled throughout 2002, then poured into first-fill ex-bourbon barrels to age. The result is a unique expression to be savoured by Friends of Laphroaig, old and new.“

Offizielle Tasting Notes

• COLOUR: Deep gold
• NOSE: A balance of sweet smoke and tropical fruit including mango and ripe banana; clotted cream and honey follow with chilli spice
• TASTE: Fudge sweetness with salt, iodine and smoke
• FINISH: Long and smooth

anCnoc

Die Marke anCnoc gehört zur Knockdhu Distillery und wird genutzt, um nicht mit Knockando (Diageo) verwechselt zu werden. Den Peatheart durfte ich bereits probieren: Twitter Tasting: anCnoc #LightOnDark mit Marshmallow. Und besucht habe ich Knockdhu bereits 2016: Knockdhu – ein ganz besonderes Highlight meiner Reise.

Jetzt wurde er auch für den deutschen Markt angekündigt. Gelagert wurde er in Bourbon Casks. Der Torf unterscheidet sich von den Islay Rauchnoten.

In der Pressemitteilung gibt es einen Hinweis, wo der Torf herkommt: „In den nördlichen und westlichen Highlands befindet sich das Herz der Torfmoore „peatlands“. Abgelegen und isoliert, aber reich an einer einzigartigen Tier- und Pflanzenwelt, bestimmt das Torfmoor die Landschaft und liefert diesen so wertvollen Treibstoff für die Whiskyherstellung.“

Offizielle Tasting Notes

• Colour: Pale amber
• Nose: An initial smoky burst surrenders to a surge of fruitiness. Ripe pears and the citrus notes of apples and limes with just a touch of tobacco in the background. The nose is balanced yet an undeniable smoky sweetness prevails.
• Taste: Smoke laced with leather and sweet stewed apples. Chocolate is there too, perfectly complemented by sweet vanilla and zesty lemon. The finish has a lingering warmth with a floral smokiness.

BenRiach

Ab 1970 hat BenRiach als erste Speyside Distillery seit dem zweiten Weltkrieg wieder begonnen auch einen Anteil der Produktion mit Torfrauch herzustellen. Aus den Jahren 1975 stammen die derzeit ältesten Bestände an torfigem BenRiach in den Lagerhäusern.

Auch hier gibt es in der Pressemitteilung eine Angabe zum Torf: „BenRiach peated single malt whiskies are distilled from peat cut in the North-East of Scotland, containing a prevalence of wood derived from ancient trees, heather and bracken. The burning of this peat releases sweet smoke and aromatic spices through the malt and into the whisky, reminiscent of a camp re in a Speyside forest.“

Rachel Barrie, Master Blender, äußert sich dazu: “At the BenRiach Distillery we pride ourselves on our unconventional distilling philosophy, creating unpeated, peated and triple distilled malt whisky. As the oldest expression in our peated range, we believe Authenticus 30 years old will impress with its distinguished pro le. It is a more intense Speyside malt which carries a delightful balance of wild honey and peat on the nose. The combination of the soft, creamy vanilla, summer fruits and slight hint of cocoa coax the palate, while the infused sweet peat builds gradually to complete the unique character.”

• Colour: Polished red wood.
• Aroma: A delightful balance of wild honey and peat combine perfectly with a touch of allspice. Distant soft fruits add hints of yellow pear, melon and peach to the sweet, smoky nose.
• Taste: An exquisite combination of spiced oak, soft, creamy vanilla and summer fruits with a dusting of cocoa. An infusion of sweet peat reek gently builds, adding an intriguing herbal, smoky contrast to the unique character.
• Finish: A fantastic fusion of rich peat and smouldering embers bound together by fresh herbs; oregano, aniseed and chicory. A rush of sweet, wild honey provides a lovely contrast to this lively, intense expression.
