Diese Woche scheint das Weihnachtsgeschäft eingeläutet zu werden. 40 Ankündigungen sind bei mir eingegangen. Bruichladdich hat die drei 10er 2nd Edition vorgestellt. Von Springbank kommt der streng limitierte 18yo nach Deutschland. Von Douglas Laing gleich 22 Single Cask Abfüllungen (u.a. auch Port Ellen und Carsebridge). PernodRicard hat die Luxusausgaben Longmorn 16yo und 23yo jetzt auch in Deutschland vorgestellt. Bowmore hat neben einer neuen Sonderedition auch den letzten Black Bowmore mit 50 Jahren angekündigt. GlenDronach mit drei neuen (u.a. einem neuen Grandeur), BenRiach mit einem 22yo und Tullibardine mit einer limited Edition.

Bruichladdich

„This unpeated ten year old is a powerful, youthful individualist. It has not been homogenised or subject to the industrial processes and caramel additives that strip out natural oils and artificially darken. Its colour is derived entirely from great casks, housed on Islay for a decade or more. Unpeated Islay Single malt. First-fill Bourbon, sherry and French wine casks. Bottled at 50% alc. vol. using Islay Spring water. 18,000 individually numbered bottles only.“

• Nose: light honey and citrus burst through with hints of tobacco and creamy fudge. it has vitality and backbone. 10 years of maturation in excellent american and european oak has developed this fantastic spirit into a real thoroughbred. clean notes of sweet oak, praline, vanilla and milk chocolate rise up together and then subside to allow the marine citrus notes to come to the fore, the influence of coastal maturation is clear to see. like waves breaking on the shore they too recede to reveal the delicate floral notes of elderflower and gorse.
• Palate: allow the spirit to sit on your tongue for a few seconds to warm and release its complex array of flavour. the creamy richness of its texture is a testament to both the highest quality scottish malted barley and the work of the distillery. the harmony with which the oak and malted barley reveal their sweet notes tell you this whisky is balanced and ready. the fruit is ripe peach, honeydew melon, raisin and sultanas, then come hints of ginger, lemon and honey in a rich assertive combination.
• Finish: the finish is long and floral. alongside the honeysuckle and rose notes, lemon zest fades to allow delicate, exotic fruits like pineapple and melon to the fore. they too pass and leave just a hint of smoke from the charred american barrels.

Octomore

„This spirit was distilled in December 2005 using malt peated to a colossal 167ppm. Filled into Fresh Bourbon and Grenache Blanc casks, it spent the next decade slumbering in P2, the ancient stone warehouse in the village of Port Charlotte, close to the western shore of Loch Indaal.“

• Nose: the octomore dna is evident as soon as the cork is popped. the smoke is closely intertwined with the rich and fruity toasted oak of the grenache casks. wisps of smoky iodine, leather, polish, nutella, ginger syrup, walnuts and orange peel compete for your attention before allowing the fruit to come into its own. lemon and green apples are held together in the grip of the typical octo- more smoky, salty rope, marine character.
• Palate: the heat is tempered by the wonderful texture in this whisky, not only has 10 years of maturation in fabulous american bourbon and french grenache casks allowed the phenol level to calm, it has allowed the viscous, oil-rich body of the whisky to build a strong confident character. the balance of smoke, oak and fruit is different from other octomores, as the phenols naturally fade with age the fabulous casks develop a strong hold giving salted caramel, marzipan, vanilla and crusty malty bread.
• Finish: after a couple of sips you may be forgiven for thinking your palate has been altered forever as the smoke lingers for fully an hour! the dry peat smoke will be the last flavour to remain; reminiscent of pipe tobacco ash and tea brewed over a fire while cutting peats on the moss. this whisky is scarce, if you are lucky enough to taste it, treasure it.

Port Charlotte

„Full term in first-fill bourbon, sherry, tempranillo and French wine casks. Bottled at 50% alc. vol. using Islay Spring water. Heavily peated Islay Single malt – 40ppm.“

• Nose: initially there is a clean, open, ozone character as the smoke is hidden by gingerbread, raspberry and vanilla. then the smoke creeps in with notes of clove, rubber and polish but it does not overpower the gentle aromas of tinned peaches in syrup, sweet red apples, brambles, caramel, cinder toffee, digestive biscuits and lemon drops all sit under a halo of crisp peat smoke.
• Palate: the oak sweetness of vanilla and toasted malty bread are wrapped in heather smoke giving the medicinal notes of bog myrtle and bracken reminiscent of a summer’s day on the peat moss. there are layers in this whisky that take time to reveal themselves. begin with salted caramel, and a lovely balance of honeysuckle and lily. next comes treacle and soft fruit, apricot and pineapple with a dusting of icing sugar. the texture is luxurious yet with a little more bite than the laddie 10.
• Finish: long and smoky, this whisky was a delight to assemble. the complexity in the different types of oak and the way they come together in harmony to create a flawless spirit is a beauty to behold. a sophisticated, smouldering heat in the true port charlotte style.

Springbank

Wie viele Flaschen „streng limitiert“ ist, wurde leider nicht verraten.

„A rusty copper colour, our 18-year-old is full of authority and is truly a classic, full-bodied dram. With a delicious nose, this whisky will tempt you in and hold your attention as you uncover its unique palate and finish.“

• Nose: Rich and creamy, developing into vanilla, ripe fruits, marzipan followed by hints of sherbet, almonds and strawberries.
• Palate: Thick and oily, fruity and mellow; gives way to a sweet liquorice and aniseed flavour as it opens up.
• Finish: Sweet and chocolatey with some coconut, the finish is long and consistent with a pleasant smokey tingle.

Longmorn

Ich habe lange darüber nachgedacht, ob ich die beiden überhaupt listen soll. Nun habe ich es doch getan, da sie offiziell in Deutschland angekündigt wurden. Hintergrund meiner Überlegungen findet Ihr hier: Tasting: Longmorn 16yo vs. Distiller’s Choice und Q&A mit Ann Miller. Der 16yo wurde vor Kurzem vom Markt genommen (ca. 62.- EUR) und erscheint jetzt als „Luxus-Interpretation“ zu deutlich höherem Preis (ca. 230.- EUR) wieder. Wie Ihr das findet, müsst Ihr selber entscheiden. Ich fand „den alten“ 16yo Klasse und brauche keine Luxus-Version davon. Schade.

Zum 16yo aus der Pressemitteilung: „Der neue Longmorn 16 Year Old ist die weiterentwickelte Version dessen, was den bisherigen Klassiker so begehrt gemacht hat. Hergestellt durch die Verwendung eines höheren Anteils an seltenen „first-fill“ Fässern aus amerikanischer Eiche, bietet die Neuinterpretation des Longmorn 16 Year Old, durch seine exquisitere Textur und weichere Vanillenoten ein intensiveres Geschmackserlebnis. Gereift in einer Kombination aus ex-Sherry-, amerikanischen und traditionellen Eichenfässern und immer noch ohne Kühlfiltration abgefüllt, hat der Longmorn 16 Year Old ein verfeinertes Aromenprofil von reifem Wiesenobst, süßer Vanille sowie zartschmelzender Milchschokolade.

Der Longmorn 16 Year Old wird ab Mitte November 2016 und der Longmorn 23 Year Old Anfang 2017 im ausgewählten Fachhandel sowie der Gastronomie erhältlich sein. “

Notes 16yo

• Aroma: Obstkompott, überlagert von sinnlichen Noten süßer Crème Brûlée.
• Geschmack: Der Gaumen wird verwöhnt von reichhaltigen Aromen reifer,
  fruchtiger Birnen und kostbarer, ausgeglichen-cremiger Milchschokolade.
• Nachklang: Geschmackvoller und exquisiter Nachklang.

Notes 23yo

• Aroma: Sanftes Buttertoffee mit einem Hauch Vanille und weicher Karamell, eingetaucht in Milchschokolade und zarten Honig.
• Geschmack: Der Gaumen wird verwöhnt von Noten reifer Birne und süßen roten Äpfeln, kombiniert mit verlockend gewürztem Ingwerkuchen.
• Nachklang: Ein außergewöhnlich langer und samtig weicher Nachklang. Eine Honorierung der Geduld und Perfektion, die in die Kreation dieses Whiskys gelegt wurde.

Bowmore

Notes No1 Vaults

• Aroma: Ausbalancierte und komplexe Aromen von Meerwasser des Atlantiks und süße Honigwaben.
• Geschmack: Am Gaumen entwickelt die Bowmore Vault Edit1°n Atlantic Sea Salt einen angenehmen, weichen und vollmundigen Geschmack, mit feinen Noten von würzigem Kakao und sonnengereiften Früchten wie Blutorangen, Brombeeren und Kumquats.
• Abgang: Leicht salziger, vollmundiger Abgang.

Notes Black Bowmore

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Zwischen 1993 und 2007 hat Bowmore vier limitierte Editionen auf den Markt gebracht: Black Bowmore 29yo, Black Bowmore 30yo, Black Bowmore 31yo und Black Bowmore 42yo. Die fünfte Edition, der Black Bowmore 50yo, stammt aus dem letzten Fass, das seit den 1960er Jahren in den traditionsreichen Gewölben Schottlands gelagert worden ist: Den „No.1 Vaults“. Es gibt weltweit nur 159 Flaschen – damit ist der krönende Abschluss der Black Edition eine Rarität.

GlenDronach Marsala Wood Finish Aged 14 Years was first matured in European oak casks and thereafter spent its twilight days in Marsala hogsheads. … offers tasting notes including stem ginger, fresh green apples and vanilla fudge….

Cask Strength Batch 6 offers whisky connoisseurs the opportunity to enjoy The GlenDronach as it is straight from the cask – non chill filtered, natural in colour and, in the case of this batch, at 56.1% ABV cask strength.

BenRiach

• Nose: A full, sumptuous nose consisting of dark orange marmalade, rich fig syrup and sweet dates. A dusting of cocoa and cinnamon followed by a gentle hint of garden mint adds a luxurious character.
• Palate: Rich, velvety dark chocolate fondant topped with glazed maraschino cherries develops to plum cordial and spiced honey. The long finish is rounded with a gentle, earthy balance of nutmeg, stewed barley and old vintage leather.
• Finish: A rich body laden with dark Mediterranean fruits and a complementary balance of warm spices and delicate oak characters.

• Duft: reichhaltig, mit edlen Eichennoten und süßlichen Aromen von Rosinen, Datteln und einem Anklang von Ingwer
• Geschmack: samtig weich, mit süßen getrockneten Früchten, tiefen Nuss- und Sherry-Aromen, zarten, warmen Gewürzen und einem Hauch von Eichen-Tanninen
• Nachklang: reichhaltig mit der Süße von Sherry

• Duft: üppig und malzig, nach süßem Toffee und Vanille-Karamell, mit Anklang von Honig und einer feinen Würze
• Geschmack: üppig und malzig, nach Honig und Ahornsirup mit Zitrusnoten, abgerundet von delikatem Zimtaroma und leichter Vanille mit Eichennote
• Nachklang: cremig-süß, mit sanfter Würze

THE BALVENIE 1997, 19yo, Cask 7951, 61.0%

Europäische Eiche, Port Puncheon, abgefüllt am 6. August 1997

• Duft: cremige Toffeearomen nach braunem Zucker, mit Noten von getrockneten Früchten und einem Hauch zart-würzigen Muskat und Zimt
• Geschmack: einladend warm, nach Pflaumen, Zwetschen und Feige, ergänzt durch tropische Fruchtaromen und süßlich-holzige Würze und getrocknete Früchte
• Nachklang: lang anhaltend, mit getrockneten Früchten, würziger Eiche und süßlichem Wein

THE BALVENIE 2001, 15yo, Cask 9328, 61.7%

Europäische Eiche, Pedro Ximénez Sherry-Fass, abgefüllt am 25. April 2001

• Duft: tief und intensiv fruchtig, mit Pfirsich und Mango, weicher Vanille mit einem Hauch braunem Zucker und Eichennote
• Geschmack: sirupartig, mit einer Süße von Toffee, einem Hauch würzigem Ingwer, abgerundet durch würzige Eichen-Tanninen
• Nachklang: fruchtig-süß mit würziger Vanille und Eiche

Tullibardine

• Nase: Intensive Bourbon-Note mit viel Vanille, sanfter Süße, Getreide, Gewürz wie Zimt, Kokosnuss
• Geschmack: Viel Getreide, intensive Holznote, noch mehr Vanille, Kokosmilch, frisch-gebackener Marmorkuchen
• Nachklang: Weich, ausbalancierter, bleibender Nachklang mit bezaubernder Süße
