NdW 13|18: Floki, Ardbeg, Cambus, Caol Ila, Highland Park und GlenAllachie

Es geht mit großen Schritten auf  Ostern zu. Schnell noch ein kleiner Rückblick auf die vergangene Woche. Aus Island gibt es nun mit Floki auch den ersten 3-jährigen Whisky. Douglas Laing feiert 70-jähriges Jubiläum und lässt es richtig krachen – mit einem 25-jährigen Ardbeg und einem 35-jährigen Doppelpack (Cambus und Caol Ila). Bei Highland Park kann man sich für den Hillhead – dem letzten der Keystones Serie – registrieren. Aber der Knaller der Woche ist wohl Billy Walker mit seiner ersten Serie von GlenAllachie gelungen (einer davon von 1978!). Da kann Ostern kommen!

Flóki

Nun ist es soweit und der Floki darf sich jetzt Whisky nennen, denn das hier ist der erste Single Malt der Eimverk Distillery mit 3 Jahren Reifezeit. Ich habe bisher nur die Young Malts probieren können.

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Verantwortlich für den besonderen Geschmack des Whiskys ist unter an- derem die isländische Gerste: Das robuste isländische Getreide enthält we- nig Stärke, weshalb etwa 50 Prozent mehr Gerste pro Flasche Whisky ver- wendet werden muss als bei anderen Gerstensorten. Auch für die Fässer gehen die Eimverk Distillers neue Wege: „Flóki“ reift in Eichenfässern, die zuvor nur mit den Young Malts der Destillerie belegt waren.“

Original Tasting Notes

vom deutschen Importeur (Kirsch Whisky): „Er duftet ungewöhnlich würzig nach Tannennadeln, Pinienkernen und Muskat, mit der Zeit auch fruchtig-frisch mit milden Vanillearomen. Im Geschmack ist „Floki“ überraschend süß und fruchtig, gefolgt von einer Würze, die an Wurzelgemüse erinnert.“

Douglas Laing – XOP und OP

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Four Whiskies have been specially selected for the XOP Platinum by Fred (Jnr) with his daughter Cara Laing for release through 2018. The first bottling will be a 25 Years Ardbeg Single Cask Single Malt at natural cask strength, without colouring or chill-filtration. The specialist packaging has been chosen to reflect both the rarity and age of the spirit, whilst each and every label is hand signed and individually numbered by Fred and Cara. The Old Particular release carries a Single Cask bottling each of 35 Years Old Cambus Single Grain and a Caol Ila 35 Years Old Single Malt. Only 284 of these packs have been produced with each and every gift box similarly being hand signed and individually numbered by Fred and Cara. The XOP Platinum series will be released globally throughout this year.“

Der Ardbeg und das Doppelpack werden beide im April auf dem Markt erscheinen.

Highland Park

Wer den fünften und letzten aus der Keystones Serie kaufen möchte, muss Inner Circle Mitglied sein und sich für die Flasche registrieren (bis spätestens 10.04.18). Das Los entscheidet, wer eine der 1.200 Flaschen kaufen darf. Diese erscheint dann Mitte April. Sicher ist ein solches „Losverfahren“ eine geschicktere Lösung, als Kaufinteressenten und vermeintliche Fans stundenlang vor nicht funktionierenden Webseiten ausharren zu lassen. Wenn schon „HYPER, HYPER“, dann bitte auch ohne großen Zeitaufwand.

Aus der Registrierungsmail: „Demand for this special release is likely to be high and if it exceeds the 1,200 bottles we’ve produced, to keep things fair, we’ll run a ballot for everyone who has expressed interest. Vielleicht nimmt sich ja die eine oder andere Islay Destillerie daran ein Beispiel?

GlenAllachie

• 1978, Cask 10296, Sherry Butt, 55.9%:
  A rush of raisins, dark chocolate and spices, followed by hints of orange peel and liquorice.
• 1989, Cask 986, Sherry Butt, 57.7%:
  A galaxy of sultanas, pineapple and plum pudding, with hints of spices and orange peel.
• 1989, Cask 2587, Hogshead, 45.4%:
  The melange of dark cherries, bananas and orange peel develops into dark chocolate and rich spices.
• 1990, Cask 2515, Sherry Butt, 44.9%:
  Rich sherry and raisin presence, with a supporting cast of dark chocolate, grapefruit and spices.
• 1990, Cask 2517, Sherry Butt, 54.6%:
  The amazing flavour rainbow of raisins, bananas, sweet cloves and pineapples extends to orange peel and dark chocolate.
• 1991, Cask 100285, Hogshead, 55%:
  Wonderful notes of vanilla, caramel, butterscotch and hazelnuts as the lead players with hints of dark chocolate, mocha and spices.
