NdW 06|17: Laphroaig 18yo, Deanston 40yo, Nikka und anCnoc 35yo

Diese Woche ist nicht ganz so viel an neuen Ankündigungen dabei. Dafür bringt Douglas Laing gleich eine neue Serie in Umlauf: Consortium of Cards – mit einem 18yo Laphroaig. Deanston hat im Januar einen 40-jährigen angekündigt, Nikka bringt eine nette Dreingabe und anCnoc kommt mit dem 35-jährigen nach über drei Monaten auch nach Deutschland.

Douglas Laing – OP “Consortium of Cards”

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „This, the first limited edition series within Old Particular, is themed around a deck of playing cards. Four releases are planned for 2017, and the series launches with the “Queen of the Hebrides”, an Old Particular Laphroaig 18 Years Old. Fred Laing, the firm’s Managing Director and second generation in the Douglas Laing family business, denotes “Richly peated barley on the nose with a tarry, ashy palate and a finish full of chimney soot” in reference to this Old Particular Queen of the Hebrides bottling. Charged from a single refill butt and bottled at 50% alcohol strength, just 665 bottles are available, with each one displaying a specially commissioned “Queen of the Hebrides” illustration. The Queen of the Hebrides is one of a “full house” of single cask releases from Douglas Laing’s Old Particular this quarter, comprised of 15 single cask malts and 5 single cask grains. The quintet of single grain bottlings includes a Cameronbridge 25 Years Old, in which Cara Laing detects “bread and butter pudding, exotic spices and juicy red apples”. The single malt contingent delivers aged and rare bottlings from Speyside, the Highlands and Islay. Among them, an Old Particular Glen Grant 21 Years Old that promises “cinnamon apple pie, vanilla cream and spicy oak”, and a Bruichladdich 11 Years Old charged from a Sherry Hogshead that boasts a “big PX Sherry hit”, according to Fred Laing.“

The spirit has been stored in whisky refill casks before spending the last 10 years of its maturation in Oloroso sherry butts.

Offizielle Tasting Notes

Light amber in colour, it has Deanston’s distinctive notes of rich honey, which is balanced with tropical fruit, rich oak, sweet malt, vanilla fudge and a delicate hint of dried fruit. On the palate, the single malt boasts a mouth filling sweetness of pear, apples and sweet malt with a lingering honey finish.

Deanston 40 Year Old is presented in the new custom-made bottle with textured metal labels. This rare release comes in a luxurious box lined with leather and a premium plaque. Less than 500 bottles of the single malt is available in whisky outlets worldwide from January 2017 at an RRP of £1000.

Nikka

Kein neuer Whisky, kein Single Malt und normalerweise schreibe ich auch nicht über die ganzen „Zugabe-Sonder-Was-Auch-Immer Verpackungen“. Aber die hier finde ich gut.

Der Nikka Pure Malt Black ist ein kräftiger und würziger Malt Whisky mit den feinen Fruchtnoten des Miyagikyo Malts sowie einem größeren Anteil öliger Yoichi Malts. Trocken und komplex und doch gefällig ist dieser perfekt balancierte Whisky.

anCnoc

Der wurde bereits im Oktober 2016 auf dem UK Markt veröffentlicht und kommt jetzt auch nach Deutschland. Hier hatte ich den schon angekündigt: NdW 44|16. In UK gab es den für 500.- GBP. Das ist übrigens die Hälfte von dem ca. 5 Jahre älteren Deanston.

Offizielle Notes

• Colour: Baltic amber.
• Nose: Top notes of lemon curd, green apples and cut flowers are followed by a heavier honey sweetness, creamy toffee, leather, spices and a pleasant touch of warming wood smoke, making for a fragrant and rich nose.
• Taste: Oily and full-bodied. Honey and fresh vanilla sit firmly on the palate, with spiciness and, once again, slight smokiness woven in.
• Finish: long and rewarding, with hints of ground spices and caramel sweetness.
