Ganz einfach.

Hier könnt Ihr Euch bei Interesse anmelden: Tweet Tastings by The Whisky Wire. Was Ihr dazu braucht?

Also Bourbon-Freunde aufgepasst!

New Make

Nose

  • sweet, grainy, even a bit beer like … and not as much the nose killer I expected …
  • quite mild on the nose, did expect much more alcohol. Sweet. Baked apple. It’s very strong, spirity & strangely a bit like a liqueur, but beware you can burn your nose, dilute it a bit
  • Typical new make, very nice and sweety! Pineapples, pear drops, candy floss, yummmmm
  • Impressive smoothness even at 75.5% ABV. Baked apple, soft white pepper and clove rock sweets
  • for 75.5% no burn.. nice floral notes, some fruity delights.. rather interesting
  • Loving that almost tropical Jamaican white rum note on the nose.
  • Very „Grappa-ish“ style of new make. Fairly hot and fruity. I can see its potential
  • Definitely getting whiffs of ‚ashtray‘ with this NMS

Palate

  • surprisingly strong and complex for new make imho, toffee (fudge) sweetness
  • Definitely starting to get the sticky blackcurrant / raspberry jam notes now
  • A teaspoon of water and all of a sudden the NMS is playing nicely! Nose has blossomed – picture walking through a pear orchard
  • on the palate of the #WalshWhiskey new make is conference pear skins &juice plus sultana/ plum brandy water brings sweetness
  • instantly evaporates, notes of fresh baked bread on lips, caramelized pear and strawberry undertones
  • Light liquorice licking the length of my tongue after adding H2O to the NMS #WalshWhiskey – pleasant! And I’m not a fan of liquorice…
  • NMS palate is the peardrop sweets from the nose, with sort of buttery flapjack notes.
with a good dash of water, cereal/barley, toffee, caramel sauce, fruity apple, pear, smooth and mouth coating

The Irishman 12 Year Old

Nose

  • The power of suggestion. Now getting full on banana, well the foam sweet shop variety
crushed lemon verbena, steeped in sugar water, dusted with crushed oatcakes and a sprig of dried rosemary
  • has burnt sugar, vanilla, banana with hints of cherries
  • a lot of vanilla after the candy store, sweets all over, fruity – yes @LoveBowmore the marshmallows
  • An abundance of spiced baked apples on the nose
  • sweet, heather honey, ground almond/marzipan, fruity pear frangipane tart, vanilla custard, lovely! The overripe mashed bananas just before you add them to banana muffins
  • Hints of oak spice bring a lovely warm feeling to the nose

Palate

  • On the palate, juicy blackcurrants becoming quite tart on the finish
light, creamy at first then spices comes through. Cinnamon. Banana peels.
  • more alcohol than expected, but nice, sweet, pineapple, fruity and sweet, spicy
  • On the palate, juicy blackcurrants becoming quite tart on the finish
vanilla cream, zesty oak tannin, lemon&pear with white pepper and cardamom&mascarpone sorbet!
  • get a little of notes from nose:acidic fruits, aged vinegar, goyava, some wood too,in fact more than expected
  • soft palate on the Irishman, banana fritters with a sprinkling of cinnamon. Too easy to drink!
  • very bourbon like.. caramel, toffee, cinnamon, ginger and stewed apple pie.. poached pear with lashings of honey …
  • spicy cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, oak & heather honey sweetness nicely balanced
  • apple pie, biscuit, cream, strong vanilla base, wee sherry-like hidden away
  • Banana, vanilla, honey, red apple, cinnamon .. a fabulous one after a hard days work

Writers Tears Copper Pot

Nose

  • backdrop of butterscotch Sunday sauce… yummy
  • Crunchy apple, lemon drizzle cake, soft spice and slight hints of white grape, soft & smooth
  • an attractive burnished gold with peppery cayenne, willow bark and honey toast
  • In time the more familiar tropical notes come through with un-ripe banana & maybe grapefruit
  • Getting a subtle menthol freshness on the nose, the type that I usually get from some bourbons.
  • Green apple, caramel, a bit dusty. Butter cups. More closed then the Irishman.
  • vanilla, apple, soft with honey, some banana

Palate

  • Chantilly vanilla cream, oat&honey flapjacks, honey drizzles, After 8 mints, keeps going for a while!
  • Eucalyptus (that’s were the freshness came from), vanilla cream, apples. Sweet with a fresh finish.
  • Chocolate and mint. After Eight biscuits. Flapjacks.
  • oily smoothness, weirdly a sherry note (I know right)! Woody, malty, pot still cream & caramelized toffee
  • Soft sweet apple, candied citrus (lemon & orange), sweet malt, gentle caramel, oak spice
  • Fruit salad with vanilla sugar, drizzled with honey, green apples & toasted oak
  • ginger biscuits & dark chocolate

Writers Tears Red Head

Nose

  • plastic bags filled with clementines, bananas and milk chocolate covered toffees…
  • getting some dried fruits, plums, candied orange, dark chocolate, vanilla, more tame than I expected though..
  • cherry, minty, vanilla and stronger. More complex than the Copper Pot. Light sherry fruits.
  • raisins, vanilla, sweet orange zest/peel, stays light and fruity

Palate

  • initially peppery, than some fruits, dark chocolate, spices and some oak – not as much sherry as exp
  • Strawberry jam, spiced orange, hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. Xmas cake notes appearing now
  • ginger, aniseed balls & maybe some pineapple?
  • cinnamon, oranges, apples, mandarin, citrus, tropical and tingling. What a complex whisky, even lavender can be found.
  • This is very much to my taste ! Red fruits and dried fruits. Prunes, figs. A parmesan note on finish.
  • Really my favorite of the set, full flavoured (46 % ABV shows ! the Oloroso as well), an accomplished one
  • Red Head wears its sherry notes well. Sweet, chewy Cola bars, followed by gentle cake spice and finally vanilla.
  • Woody oak dryness, nutmeg, hints of pepper, brandy soaked raisins & chocolate

  • The Irishman 12 Year Old, is matured exclusively in charred first fill bourbon casks
Launched in September 2013, The Irishman 12 Year Old, is limited to just 6000, batch numbered bottles per year.
  • Writers Tears Copper Pot, is triple distilled, non-peated & matured in American oak bourbon casks. Writerṣ Tears Copper Pot, is a blend of single malt & single pot still whiskeys; 60% malt & 40% pot still. This is one of @101Whiskies “101 Whiskeys to try before you die“.
  • Writers Tears Red Head, is matured in Spanish sherry butts which have previously been seasoned with Oloroso sherry. Triple distilled & bottled without chill filtration, Writers Tears Red Head, was launched in August 2016.

Vielen Dank an Walsh Whiskey und Steve Rush für dieses nette Tasting!
