Kaum macht man ein paar Tage Urlaub, schon stauen sich die Whisky Neuerscheinungen in meinem Postfach. Paul John bringt eine Weihnachtsedition. BenRiach nimmt einen 12-jährigen in die Core Range auf. Douglas Laing stellt einen XOP und einen Provenance vor. Von Spirit & Cask gibt es fünf neue Single Cask Bottlings. Tomatin ergänzt die Cù Bòcan um ein Vintage aus 2003 und einem aus 1990. Der älteste Littlemill ist ein 40-jähriger. Glenfarclas stellt 18 neue Family Casks vor. Hibiki verpackt den Japanese Harmony als Sonderedition. Ardbeg kündigt einen 22-jährigen aus der Reihe „Twenty Something“ an. Highland Park verkauft einen „The Dolphins“ und Tullibardine stellt ein Châteauneuf-du-Pape Finish vor.

Paul John

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Der Brennmeister Michael d´Souza schuf mit der Vermählung 7-Jahre gereiften ungetorften und getorften Single Malts ein wahrlich festliches Whisky-Vergnügen. Der extra für das Weihnachtsfest selektierte Whisky reifte dabei in ehemaligen Bourbon-Fässern und wurde anschließend in Oloroso Sherry-Fässern gefinished.“

Original Tasting Notes

• Nase: Reiner, luxuriöser, klassischer Paul John mit viel Honig, Zitrusfrüchten und Haselnüssen. Eingebunden in einen fabelhaften Sherry-Hintergrund mit einer gereiften Mischung aus Fruchtkuchen, Edelpflaume und Apfel. Die leichte Rauchigkeit mündet in einer delikaten Würze.
• Gaumen: Eine ultra-fruchtige Üppigkeit mit einer Kombination aus zarter Würze, Nussaromen und Süße.
• Abgang: Typische Noten eines trockenen spanischen Olorosos mit einem etwas süßeren Ansatz durchzogen von Aromen trockener Datteln, Feigen und Honig.

BenRiach

Der neue 12-jährige ist ein neues Mitglied in der Core Range, d.h. er wird dauerhaft verfügbar sein.

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Made using three styles of sherry cask maturation: full sherry cask maturation, combined with Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry cask finishing, the expression offers layers of fruit sweetness and toasted oak spice with a luscious dessert-like finish.“ Rachel Barrie, Master Blender von BenRiach, beschreibt ihn so: „BenRiach Sherry Wood Aged 12 Years uses three-way sherry wood maturation, a creative approach where each facet is combined in harmony to deliver a rich and balanced taste. The result – a multi-layered Single Malt Scotch Whisky with notes of fruit cocktail, lilting spices, honeyed caramel and chocolate sweetness – an enrichment of BenRiach’s signature sweet, fruit-laden style.“

Glen Garioch

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „The latest XOP Platinum is a 25 Years Old Glen Garioch Single Cask Single Malt finished in an ex-Sherry Cask. The third in a planned collection of four, this release follows the Ardbeg Vintage 1992 launched in March and Port Dundas Vintage 1974, unveiled in June.“

Caol Ila

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „The range is said to deliver ‚an extraordinary voyage around Scotland’s Whisky islands‘, with this latest Islay bottling’s tasting notes proclaiming ‚loads of Islay peat‘ alongside ’soot, ash and coal dust‘.“

Cù Bòcan

Aus der Pressemitteiung: „The 2003 vintage limited edition Cù Bòcan (aged 15 years old) has been bottled at a strength of 46% and sits alongside the standard edition. It has been matured in peated Islay ex-Sherry butts and is only available while stocks last. This full bodied single malt has coastal peat smoke notes which are perfectly balanced with winter spices and orchard fruits. 

The special 1990 vintage release was distilled on 17 October 1990 and has been matured in peated Islay ex-Bourbon barrels. In their past lives, the casks were home to one of Islay’s peatiest potions and hints of the untamed spirit have been working their smoky magic over the years. The final creation, at 52.9% strength, is smoky, with notes of tropical fruits and warm spices. These latest releases follow previous limited editions including the 2006 vintage in 2017, the 1988 and 2005 vintages in 2016, the Virgin Oak, Sherry and Bourbon expressions in 2015 and the 1989 vintage in 2014.“

Littlemill

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „The Celestial Edition has been matured in American oak and first fill bourbon barrels before a brief 3 month finish in Oloroso sherry. It is the oldest Littlemill release to date, distilled on 11th October 1977 and brings an excellent balance of both distillery character and wood influence.“

Die Restbestände der Littlemill Fässer gehören übrigens der Loch Lomond Group. Ich habe gerade erst ein paar in den Lagerhäusern bei Loch Lomond gesehen.

Original Tasting Notes

• Nose: Floral bursts of honeysuckle and elderflower, early summer hedgerow, with delicate honey sweetness and elegant oak spice of cinnamon and nutmeg.
• Palate: Opens with mouth- watering fruits, crisp green apple and fresh pineapple with grapefruit and lime citrus then richer dried fruits of sultana and raisins before vanilla toffee gives sweetness to the mid-palate.
• Finish: Long with layers of fruit and spice. Green fruits continue into the finish with gooseberry and kiwi before waves of warming cinnamon and clove spice.

Hibiki

Ardbeg

Aus der Infomail: „Ardbeg Twenty Something, 22yo, wird in Deutschland ab 9. Oktober 2018 verfügbar sein…. Im Frühjahr 1996 von Visionären destilliert, die den Geist von Ardbeg unbedingt am Leben erhalten wollten. Ein hervorragender 22-jähriger Single Malt aus dem Jahr, als die Destillerie ihren Betrieb komplett einstellte.“

Highland Park

Seit dem 21.09. können HP Inner Circle Mitglieder eine Sonderabfüllung kaufen, die speziell für die Royal Submariners (Britische U-Booteinheiten) hergestellt wurde. Leider nur mit 40% abgefüllt. Aus der Infomail: „Having created THE BATTLE OF JUTLAND special commemorative whisky for The Royal Navy in 2016, we were honoured to be asked to create THE DOLPHINS with the Submariners This very special release is named after the Dolphins badge which is awarded to British Submariners on successful completion of one of the toughest courses in the world – the Submarine Command Course – aptly known as ‘Perisher’.“

Tullibardine

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „In der Marquees Edition werden berühmte historische Persönlichkeiten geehrt, die den Titel Marquees of Tullibardine trugen. Die ersten Abfüllungen sind Sir William Murray (1705-1793) gewidmet und wurde gänzlich in Bourbonfässern gereift. Der 12-jährige Single Malt des Jahrgangs 2005 reifte zunächst in frischen Ex-Bourbon-Fässern. Seine Komplexität erhielt er über eine fast zweijährige Nachreifung in Rotweinfässern aus der Region Châteauneuf-du-Pape an der südlichen Rhône.“

Original Tasting Notes

• Nase: Holz, Gewürze mit Fruchtnoten wie Himbeerkompott, Aprikosen und Kirschkuchen.
• Geschmack: Tannine, Holz, Erde, Pfeffer mit „roter“ Süße – Kirschbonbons und Marmelade.
• Finish: Angenehm trocken mit Eiche, Zimt und Süßigkeiten.
