Teeling hat letzte Woche gleich zwei „alte“ Iren angekündigt: mit 24 und 33 Jahren. Die SMWS stellt acht neue Scotch Single Malts vor. Beam Suntory bringt einen japanischen Grain Whisky auf den deutschen Markt: Chita. Von Glenfarclas gibt es drei neue. Und Douglas Laing bringt eine neue Ausgabe des Rock Oyster aus dem Sherry Cask.

Teeling 24yo

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Der im Jahr 1991 destillierte Teeling 24 Years Old reift zunächst in handselektierten Bourbon-Fässern, bevor das Finish in ehemaligen Sauternes-Wein-Fässer diese im vergangenen Jahr bei den „World Whiskies Awards“ als weltbesten Irish Single Malt ausgezeichnete Qualität zu einem einmaligen Geschmackserlebnis macht. Die Abfüllung wird mit 46% vol. Alkohol non-chill-filtered abgefüllt, um den Geschmack der natürlichen Aromen zu gewährleisten. Jede edle Flasche wird in einer aufwendig designten Geschenkpackung und mit Echtheitszertifikat ausgeliefert.“

Teeling 33yo

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Im Jahr 1983 destilliert, betört die äußerst exklusive Rarität Teeling 33 Years Old den Gaumen auf ganzer Linie. Einige der ältesten irischen Single Malts aus zwei handselektierten Ex-Bourbon-Fässern werden zu einem unvergleichbaren Whiskey vermählt, der die Handwerkskunst der Teeling Destillerie verkörpert und ein Juwel für Whiskey-Connaisseurs darstellt. Die Abfüllung ist auf 275 Flaschen limitiert und wird mit 42,9% vol. Alkohol non-chill-filtered abgefüllt, um den Geschmack der natürlichen Aromen zu gewährleisten. Jede edle Flasche wird in einer aufwendig designten, hölzernen Geschenkpackung und mit Echtheitszertifikat ausgeliefert.“

• 29.223 Relax, Refresh, Rejuvenate, 17yo, 228 Flaschen, 58,3%, 106,70 GBP – Laphroaig (Preview x 60) We all met in a Finish sauna and as we got comfortable water mixed with sweet birch essential oil was poured over the hot stones of the stove. Some of us got out immediately, others stayed a little longer but eventually we all ended up after a dip in the cold sea, around a beach bonfire. Now we took a sip and it warmed us immediately; big, massive, powerful hot sweet savoury smoke like devilled spare ribs and pork sausages with garlic and herbs. Water released perfumed ashy aromas and fresh seaweed cast up on the shore whilst on the palate like smoking a naturally sweet Cuban cigar and nibbling away on smoked Jamaican rum cake. • 44.84 Smooth edges, 13yo, 221 Flaschen, 56,6%, 56,10 GBP – Craigellachie
  (Preview x 30) We noticed at first the deep golden brown colour which was followed by elegant, delicate but at the same time rich aromas of caramelised peanuts, cinnamon hazelnut biscotti and roasted figs wrapped in Parma ham. The taste neat was that of a sticky, dense, chewy malt loaf with mixed dried fruits and sultanas as well as chocolate coated cinder toffee – maybe a little rough around the edges! With water however it smoothed out very nicely; spiced orange cake on the nose and ice cream with a tangy maple walnut cranberry sauce on the palate. Aftert 13 years in a 2nd fill Oloroso butt we transferred it to a virgin oak toasted hogshead.

• 73.86 Work of Art, 14yo, 580 Flaschen, 59,2%, 55,50 GBP – Aultmore
  (Preview x 60) On the nose neat associations of looking at an ‘old master’ still life painting of a fruit bowl and claret jug. The bowl is laden with apples, pears, grapes, bananas, plums and on the side half an orange. The taste neat was a deep rich red wine sauce with dried cranberries and walnuts as well as spiced cherries in grappa liquor. With water a few tropical fruits were added to the ‘fruit bowl’, mainly papaya, pineapple and mango and now very moreish on the palate, sticky malt loaf with blackcurrant jam and gingerbread spice cake with caramel apple sauce. • 36.133 An irresistible experience, 19yo, 171 Flaschen, 55,2%, 75,00 GBP – Benrinnes
  (Preview x 30) Bright fresh elegant sweet aromas of ripe pears combined with a slight petrolic edge, so typical for Riesling wines, were soon followed by waxy vanilla scented candles, cinnamon baked apples and treacle tart served with vanilla ice cream. A dry spiciness of chilli powder surprised us all on the palate neat and kept us on our toes. When adding water a sweet earthy note appeared reminding some of going truffle hunting whilst others turned the soil over in a rose garden. To taste a complete transformation; deep sweet nutty aromas of honey roasted cashews and olive oil crackers with black pepper and herbs made this an irresistible experience. • 10.118 Enthralling pink and peat intensity, 10yo, 257 Flaschen, 60,6%, 62,80 GBP – Bunnahabhain The colour, a red blush like a rose wine, was aptly followed by sweet and fruity aromas of raspberry smoked maple jam, red candied apples and pink candyfloss. Hot, smoky and ashy on the palate like applewood smoked chicken with Dijon rub as well as pancakes with maple syrup and bacon. With water it felt like being in a small smoky cottage eating exotic dishes like smoked plum and nectarine ice cream and macarons with a raspberry ganache whilst drinking a glass of smoky, refreshingly crisp mineralic Riesling rose wine. After nine years in an ex-bourbon hogshead, we transferred this whisky directly into a 1st fill Port barrique for the remainder of its maturation.

• 54.50 Expensive perfume on a fruity tart, 10yo, 197 Flaschen, 60,4%, 51,00 GBP – Aberlour Like an expensive perfume it expressed a multitude of floral fragrances with a careful balance of soft and attractive fruits. Sweet apple blossom and wisteria harmoniously integrated with clementine, nectarines, black grapes and plum skins. There was a sweet and malty note like oatcakes and lemon sponge with soft icing but also with the tartness of marmalade and quince jelly. The palate developed this fresh edge into gooseberry tart and crab apple jam with the distinctive tingly warmth of fresh ginger. Then sweetness again as honey and toffee combined with orange liqueur before nutmeg and cooling menthol appeared on the finish. Refill barrel, Jahrgang: 2006 | Region: Speyside
• 93.77 A classic rally, 9yo, 225 Flaschen, 58,8%, 59,00 GBP – Glen Scotia
  We imagined standing at the roadside watching a West Coast Rally. The smell of racing fuel, engine oil and brake pads as vintage rally cars whizzed by, was mixed with fresh sea air and green, earthy, slightly floral notes of the low-lying grassy plain of the machair. The taste started with a medicinal ashy flavour soon moving on to the sweetness of shortbread with a raspberry flavoured jam filling (Jammie Dodgers) and in the finish, fresh peppermint. Water moved us back in time to the preparations before the start, clean cars with vintage leather and polished chrome and on the taste, sweet, chewy, spicy candied ginger.

• 41.94 A small glass of happiness, 12yo, 281 Flaschen, 57,3%, 54,70 GBP – Dailuaine
  A small glass of happiness transformed into an ocean of jubilation as we became immersed in toffee and caramelised brown sugar on baked banana with chantilly cream. A stream of apricots, pears and rhubarb and custard flowed into ripe mango, cassis and caramel wafers. A floral note of tulips, fuscia and carnation introduced the spicy edge of cinnamon with fresh ginger. Then toasted coconut and banoffee pie followed with the freshness of cut grass and mint chocolate. The finish was chewy and sticky, rich and spicy and carried the tang of fresh orange peel. After 11 years in an ex-bourbon hogshead it was transferred to a virgin oak hogshead for the remainder of its maturation.

Chita

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „The Chita unterscheidet sich von anderen Single Grain Whiskys durch einen komplexen, mehrfachen Destillationsprozess. So entstehen die drei Kern-Komponenten: die aus Mais hergestellten Grain Whisky Typen clean, medium und heavy – was eine Besonderheit bei der Grain Whisky Herstellung darstellt. Dank kontinuierlicher Optimierung ist es dem Master Blender Shinji Fukuyo gelungen, den Single Grain Whisky in höchster Qualität und besonderer Reinheit herzustellen. Er verfeinerte die Aromen, indem er neben den bekannten amerikanischen Weißeichenfässern auch spanische Eichenfässer und Weinfässer für die Lagerung nutzte. Durch die vielfältige Fasslagerung wird dem Whisky seine Geschmackstiefe und Komplexität verliehen. Eine weitere Rolle spielt das einzigartige Klima der japanischen Region. Für die Produktion wird das besonders hochwertige „Aichi Water“ verwendet, das ebenfalls von der Halbinsel stammt. Das Ergebnis ist ein besonders milder, weicher Single Grain Whisky mit beispielloser Raffinesse und einem reinen, klaren Abgang.“

• Aroma: Duftet nach Crème Brûlée, Kardamom, Akazien-Honig und Rosenblüten.
• Geschmack: Mild und geschmeidig, mit einem Hauch von Minze und tiefer Honignote.
• Abgang: rein und klar, raffinierter Abgang mit Anklängen von würziger Eiche. Trinkempfehlung: Pur oder auf Eis zu genießen.

Glenfarclas – christmas edition 1996

Destilliert im Dezember des Jahres 1996, erfolgte die Reifung der “Oloroso Sherry Casks” im alten Fasskeller der Brennerei. Date of distillation: 05.12.1996 Cask Numbers: 9 Hhds # 7772-7780 Limitiert auf 2400 Flaschen

Warmes Gold. Aroma kraftvoll nach Kräu- tern, Vanille und Honig. Im Geschmack Fruchtaromen, Sultanine und Sherry. Harmonischer, lang anhaltender Abgang.

Glenfarclas – cask strength Premium edition

Für die neue Cask Strength Premium Edition wurden besondere Sherryfässer ausgewählt und die Abfüllung am 28.02.2017 auf 6.000 Flaschen limitiert.

Dunkles Bernstein. Im Aroma leichtes Karamell, Honig und die klassische Sherry-Note. Im Geschmack exotische Früchte und Sherry. Intensiver Abgang, lang und eine beeindruckende Sherry-Note.

Glenfarclas – 2008

Rock Oyster Sherry
