Ich habe wieder ein wenig gesammelt. Die Temperaturen werden wärmer und die Neuerscheinungen weniger. Deshalb habe ich heute auch mehr die „besonderen“ Abfüllungen dabei. Springbank hat eine neue Society Bottle herausgebracht – einen 9-jährigen aus dem Sauternes Fass. Die SMWS stellt heute drei spezielle Abfüllungen für das Feis (auf Islay und in den Partnerbars) vor sowie vier vorab als Juni Vorschau. Und von anCnoc kommt ein neuer Vintage 2002.

Springbank

Die neue Society Bottle ist letzte Woche angekündigt worden. Gestern und heute kann sie während des Festivals in Campbeltown persönlich abgeholt werden.

• Cask type: Fresh Sauternes Hogsheads
• Distilled: November 2007
• Bottled: May 2017

Offizielle Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Dunnage warehouse; bruised fruits, sun dried raisins and treacle toffee with icing sugar and port notes appearing as the nose develops.
• Taste: Syrupy texture, with earthy and oaky notes, prunes, redcurrants and bramble jam.
• Finish: Chewy, sweet and rich like sticky toffee pudding and christmas cake; hints of treacle, brown sugar and dark cherries.

• 10.113 (Bunnahabhain): „The Crowd Pleaser“ ist ein 10 Jahre alter Whisky aus einem Ex-Bourbon Fass der Zweitabfüllung. Er wird dem Heavily Peated Geschmacksprofil der Scotch Malt Whisky Society zugeordnet wird, charakterisiert durch die Noten benannt nach „sweet hot smoked salmon and old first aid kits“. Nur 186 Flaschen werden zur Verfügung stehen.

• 3.299 (Bowmore): „Sweet Smoke on the Water“ ist mit 20 Jahren ein älterer Whisky der in einem französischen Hogshead-Fass in Zweitabfüllung gereift ist. Er ist dem Geschmacksprofil Peated der Scotch Malt Whisky Society zugeordnet und beinhaltet Noten beschrieben als „smoked duck and ribs with sticky glaze“. 252 Flaschen werden erhältlich sein. £120 (Member) & £156 (Sample subscriber)
• 29.211(Laphroaig): Der älteste des Islay Trios ist der 21-jährige „Jazzy Jousting Hastlitude“, eine Erstabfüllung, gereift in einem amerikanischen Pedro Ximenez Eichenfass. Ebenfalls dem Peated-Profile zugehörig, werden diesem Whisky Noten von „Tarte Tatin“, „cream syrup“ und „herbal smoke“ zugeschrieben. Hergestellt in einer der bedeutendsten Destillerien der Welt, wurden 228 Flaschen abgefüllt.

Lagerung in Spanish und American oak casks

Original Tasting Notes:

• Colour: Bright Amber.
• Nose: Packed with notes of spicy Christmas cake, liquorice and toffee. Creamy vanilla and ground spices then follow, all wrapped up in the classic honey and citrus flavours so typical of anCnoc.
• Taste: Chocolate adds another level of sweetness contrasted by orange zest and a hint of leather. The finish is long and warming with a spicy kick.

SMWS – Preview Juni

• 30.97 Dancing on a volcano, 9yo, 627 Flaschen, 64,7%, 53,30 GBP – Glenrothes
  The big sherry-influenced nose carries boozy trifle, rum and raisin, Christmas cake, Hoisin sauce, dark chocolate and hints of cigars. On the palate we got spotted dick*, over-done Christmas cake, very dark chocolate, intense mocha, treacle toffee, and bicycle handlebar grips; one panellist was ‘dancing on the edge of a volcano’. The reduced nose gave us coffee and walnut cake, bread and butter pudding and ‘plastic raincoats walking away from a firework display’. The reduced palate had loads of toffee, raisiny fudge, dried fruits and char-grilled Chinese ribs with a dry oloroso finish – probably challenging for some but unanimously approved by us. (*British pudding made with suet and dried fruit)
  1st fill Spanish oak Sherry butt, Jahrgang: 2007 | Region: Speyside
• 39.143 Dark, spicy and rich, 16yo, 261 Flaschen, 57,1%, 64,50 GBP – Linkwood
  Lighting the scented beeswax candles illuminated the sumptuous aromas surrounding us. On a heavy oak table stood old leather bound books and a rich fruitcake bursting with sultanas, figs and dates and generously spiced with cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Soft fudge and sticky cinder toffee sat beside manuka honey, spicy rye bread and juicy blood oranges. We then noticed the most extravagant black forest gateau, packed with dark cherries and topped with clotted cream and opulent chocolate that was so dark it seemed to absorb the light in the room. After spending 16 years in an ex-Bourbon barrel it was transferred to an ex-red wine hogshead for the remainder of its maturation.

• 66.103 A thing of rough beauty, 9yo, 208 Flaschen, 60,4%, 55,00 GBP – Ardmore
  This is a thing of rough beauty – the nose combines smoky, seaweedy beach barbeques with medicine cabinets and intriguing sweetness (Battenberg, marrons glacés). The palate is intensely toothsome – fudge donut sweetness juxtaposing big smoke, burnt sticks, coal-dust, tarry ropes, TCP and dry-cured ham. The reduced nose wafts pleasant coastal peat fire smoke; elastoplasts, Bakewell tarts, almond slices and salt and vinegar crisps. The reduced palate achieves a perfect balance between brown sugar sweetness and teasing and tantalising smoke drifting from distant bonfires. It is still undoubtedly complex (old sea-chests, lavender, meaty and medicinal) and retains a pleasingly tongue-pinching mouth-feel. Refill barrel, Jahrgang: 2007 | Region: Highland
• 4.226 Smoked plum lemonade, 12yo, 627 Flaschen, 64.5%, 65,60 GBP – Highland Park
  We were transported to the beach where we started a fire with driftwood and on the grill we put a layer of seaweed mixed with heather and cooked sweet chilli prawns and Teriyaki monkfish skewers. On the palate a truly sweet smoky sensation to start, then dark fruits, blackberry jam with lime juice and smoked plum lemonade (using grilled lemons), added a zing to our barbeque. Drop of water and more sweetness appeared on the nose; slightly burnt doughnuts, hot cross buns and toffee apples. The taste also provided more sweetness to balance the still noticeable smoke which reminded us of charred wood.
