Tasting: Tomatin METAL und WATER – zwei aus der Five Virtues Serie

Angekündigt habe ich die beiden bereits im NdW 8|18. Beide ohne Altersangabe (NAS) und limitiert. Jetzt habe ich beide im Glas und bin gespannt, ob mir die beiden Tomatin Abfüllungen aus der Five Virtues Serie gefallen.

Tasting Notes – Metal

Offizielle Notes

• Nose – Soft, creamy vanilla with sweet chocolate and Macadamia nuts.
• Taste – Citrus notes come to the fore with sweet spices.
• Finish – Typically Tomatin; soft, sweet and light.

Meine Notes

• Nase: Sehr fruchtig tritt er an. Grüne Äpfel und Birnen werden mit Vanille langsam miteinander vermengt. Dazu ein wenig Honig und Menthol. Zitrone.
• Geschmack: Zitrone und leichte Würze. Von dem Obst finde ich hier nichts mehr. Ganz sanft habe ich hier auch Orangenlimonade. Ein wenig Süße. Leichte Schokoladennote.
• Abgang: Sehr leicht und mild. Kleiner Menthol Anklang, aber gleich wieder leichte Süße. Leichte Nußnote.

Offizielle Notes

• Nose – Mature fruity flavours with chocolate honeycomb.
• Taste – Rich toffee and marzipan with blood orange marmalade.
• Finish – Warming with a long and oily finish.

Meine Notes

• Nase: Hier war ein Sherryfass mit am Werk. Keine Sherrybombe aber doch kräftige Früchte. Rosinen und getrocknete Datteln. Oloroso.
• Geschmack: Hinter dem Sherry kommt Birne zum Vorschein. Die süßen Früchte des Sherrys sind sehr präsent.
• Abgang: Würzig und ein wenig Menthol.

Insgesamt gibt es fünf Abfüllungen in der Serie. Diese beiden sind die letzten und die Serie ist jetzt vollständig.

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Five Virtues draws its inspiration from the nature’s elements – Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water – and comes uniquely packaged in cartons adorned with contemporary Scottish art, created by Eva Ullrich. Comprised of five distinguished single malts, each with a limited run of 6,000 bottles, the range has been crafted with inspiration from each element. These include heavily charred oak, Bourbon barrels and, unusually for Tomatin, peated malt. Each of the Five Virtues malts comes with its own distinct complexity and character; Wood has been aged in French, American and Hungarian oak casks, while Fire is matured in heavily charred oak, simulating fresh vanilla flavours. Earth exhibits rich and intense peaty flavours as a consequence of maturing in peat-dried malted barley casks and Metal is expressed by the distillery’s 12 beautiful copper stills. Completing the series, Water is distinguished by its naturally pure soft water from the Alt-na-Frith burn, which is drawn year round but employs a winter-distilled spirit to enrich the final flavour.“

Fazit

Beide sind kräftig und jung. Mentholische Noten mit leichter Pfefferschärfe. Mir sind die älteren Tomatin lieber. Im Metal hat man mehr von dem Brennereicharakter, beim Water wird dieser etwas von den Sherrynoten überdeckt.
