NdW 01|18: E&K, Teeling, Timorous Beastie, Black Rock

Seit dem letzten NdW im alten Jahr gab es nicht viele Neuerscheinungen, aber ein paar habe ich angesammelt. E&K ist ein besonderer Blend hinter dem u.a. der Master Distiller von Ardnamurchan steckt. Teeling hat die vierte Ausgabe des Revivals angekündigt. Douglas Laing kommt mit einem 10-jährigen Timorous Beastie als limitiertes Batch 1 und den irischen Black Rock gibt es in der 4.ten Auflage. Blended Malts und Irisch war wohl das Motto der letzten Tage.

E&K

Aus der Pressemitteilung ein wenig Hintergrundinformationen: „Fusion Whisky, the Edinburgh-based company behind the iconic Glover series of whiskies and The E&K, said its latest limited edition whisky was made from a blend of Scotch whisky from Ardmore and Glenrothes distilleries, and malt whisky from Amrut Distillery in Bangalore, India.“ zu Ehren von „Victor Bruce, the 9th Earl of Elgin and 13th Earl of Kincardine, served as Viceroy and Governor General of India between 1894-99. Bruce was a Scottish liberal politician who distinguished himself both in Britain and in India.“

Tasting Notes von Alex Bruce: „The E&K is a long awaited and exciting blend of Scotch and Indian whisky. When you marry mature Scotch with whisky matured in a different climate you can create some exciting and extremely rewarding flavours, adding new layers of complexity and depth. We found that with The Glover series and with last year’s Kincardine, and I’m sure whisky lovers will agree that we’ve achieved that with The E&K. The Amrut brings tropical fruits and spice, the Ardmore creaminess and sooty smoke, and the Glenrothes adds a sherry-matured richness and texture to complete the balance.“

Original Tasting Notes

• Nase: subtile blumige Noten, Aromen von Pfirsich, Ananas und Satsuma.
• Geschmack: reife Früchte und Gewürze, mit einem Hauch von Vanille und Sahne.
• Nachhall: trockenes Finish, auf der Zunge entfalten sich nachklingende hölzerne Noten.

Timorous Beastie

• Blended Malt (Blend aus Single Malts, kein Grain Whisky)
• Alle aus der Region Highland
• Batch #1 (das klingt nach Nachschub)

Original Tasting Notes

• Nose: The nose is immediately sugary sweet, bursting with warm syrup over sponge and ripe, juicy nectarines.
• Palate: The palate brings creamy honey, warm buttered toast, gentle spice and a distinct cereal character.
• Finish: All that leads to a deliciously full finish of honeycomb, zesty orange and soft fruits.

Black Rock

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Diesmal wurde ein 16 Jahre alter Single Malt ausgewählt, der zweifach destilliert wurde. Wenn man an irischen Whiskey denkt, dann denkt man oft an dreifach destillierten Single Malt, doch auch in Irland wird zweifach gebrannt. Dieser Whiskey reifte 16 Jahre in stark ausgebrannten First Fill Bourbonfässern, wodurch er intensive Aromen erhalten hat. Ein Whiskey, der in der Nase auffällige Holznoten zeigt und dann im Geschmack völlig andere Facetten aufzeigt, mit einer schönen Süße, hellen Fruchtnoten und Würzigkeit.“
