Ab 2024: Gordon & MacPhail beendet Kauf von New Make anderer Hersteller

Das war erst mal eine überraschende Nachricht: Gordon & MacPhail beendet seine Tätigkeit als unabhängiger Abfüller. Kann das sein? Das wollte ich genauer verstehen und ich habe nochmal nachgefragt. So viel vorweg: wir werden noch lange Abfüllungen von Gordon & MacPhail kaufen können.

Kurz & Knapp: Gordon & MacPhail beendet NICHT seine Tätigkeit als unabhängiger Abfüller

• Gordon & MacPhail ist einer der ältesten (und bekanntesten) unabhängigen Abfüller (UA im Profil: Gordon & MacPhail)
• Bisher hat Gordon & MacPhail New Make anderer Destillerien in ihre eigenen Fässer füllen lassen und damit die Kontrolle über das Endprodukt übernommen
• Ab 2024 wird Gordon & MacPhail keinen New Make anderer Destillerien mehr in ihre Fässer füllen lassen („Gordon & MacPhail will stop filling 3^rd party whiskies“)
• Ab 2024 wird man sich auf Benromach und The Cairn fokussieren
• ABER, es wird noch sehr lange Bestände geben und deshalb auch weiterhin noch unabhängig abgefüllte Single Malts von Gordon & MacPhail („we hold decades’ worth of fillings from previous years (and previous generations) so will still of course be selling those whiskies for decades to come“)

Es ist schade, dass Gordon & MacPhail nach 128 Jahren den Schwerpunkt verlagert, aber es ist nachvollziehbar, denn es wird immer schwieriger New Make zu bekommen und auch die Zahl der unabhängigen Abfüller hat über die letzten Jahre deutlich zugenommen. Ich freue mich auf die weiterhin erhältlichen tollen Abfüllungen und rechne mit der ein oder anderen „das ist das letzte Fass“ Aktion. Ob ich das noch erleben werde?

Gordon & MacPhail company update

24.07.2023, Elgin Gordon & MacPhail’s time as an independent bottler will, over the coming decades, slowly come to an end as the company evolves to prioritise single malt production from its own distilleries. 

From 2024, Gordon & MacPhail will cease filling spirit into cask from distilleries not owned by the company. This will allow it to control its own destiny by focusing on Benromach and The Cairn. These distilleries secure supply of the highest quality single malt whisky. 

For the past 128 years, Gordon & MacPhail has sent casks to over 100 Scotch whisky distilleries, filling them with new-make spirit and expertly maturing them for many years. Over that time it has transformed from greengrocer to whisky merchant and independent bottler to owner of two distilleries. 

This is a significant next step in the long-term evolution of the company. However, for the next several decades, whiskies bearing the Gordon & MacPhail marque will continue to be released, discovered and enjoyed from the company’s extensive portfolio of some of the world’s rarest and most sought-after single malts.
