Diese Woche gibt es nur wenig neue Abfüllungen. Von Highland Park gibt es den dritten aus der Serie The Keystones: QUERCUS. Nach Glenglassaugh letzte Woche folgt diese Woche GlenDronach mit einem Cask Finish: Peated Port Wood. Douglas Laing bringt eine 25-jährige Jubiläumsausgabe des Big Peat. Glenfarclas bringt einen 1995 als Limited Rare Bottling. Und die SMWS bringt unter dem Motto „Magische Momente“ 43 Abfüllungen.

HP Quercus

Wer einen Quercus haben möchte, muss sich registrieren und bekommt mit Glück eine von 1.200 Flaschen.

„QUERCUS will be released later this month and can only be purchased from our online shop by Inner Circle members at a UK price of £75 (plus postage) for a 70cl bottle. Remember that registration closes at midnight (UK time) on Wednesday 22nd November 2017. QUERCUS is named after the species of oak we use to make our casks and explores the impact that our casks have on the character of our whisky. It’s fair to say that we’re obsessed with wood and casks at Highland Park – a little ironic given the lack of trees in Orkney! We carefully select European and American Oak trees, cutting the wood into staves at precisely 45° to make it harder for any spirit to escape. The staves are shipped to Jerez in southern Spain to be made into casks, filled with Oloroso Sherry and left to mature for two years before being emptied and shipped back to us in Orkney.“

• Colour: Deep russet, clear and bright
• Nose: Rich spices, dried fruit, light smoke and cedar wood
• Palate: Cinnamon bark, orange peel, cocoa and toasted wood
• Finish: Lingering spiciness

GlenDronach

Offizielle Tasting Notes

• Appearance: Dark amber with a ruby heart.
• Nose: Wild strawberries dusted with cinnamon sugar, lled with sweet wood smoke. A warming hint of black pepper and a sprig of mint appear in the back note.
• Palate: Crisp, tart cranberry juice, ooded with waves of Highland smoke, sweetens to red berry compote, with rich, stewed barley and lingering, smouldering charcoal.

Big Peat

Cara Laing, Director of Whisky bei Douglas Laing kommentiert: “With this specialist series in mind, we’ve been sampling certain casks over the years and feel now that Big Peat’s aged Vatting is ripe for release. Our very special marriage of Islay Single Malts is bursting with rich, deep, phenolic and typically Islay flavours, clearly showing Big Peat’s signature sweet smokiness at its heart. It will be fascinating to see how the spirit develops as the trilogy progresses.”

• Nose: Bringing a unique taste of his island home of Islay, detect a more gentle and mature side of Big Peat on the nose, with boat varnish, beachy rock pools and a smoky barbecue backdrop.
• Palate: The palate opens as sweetly-peated as ever and warms to later creosote, black pepper and chimney smoke.
• Finish: The finish displays that same warm depth of sweet personality before deliciously damp bonfire ash, coal dust and charred meat appear
