NdW 33|18: Gauldrons, Rock Oyster, Dingle, Highland Park, Octomore, Aberfeldy

Viele Neuerscheinungen gab es in den letzten Wochen nicht, deshalb habe ich ein wenig gesammelt. Schon Ende Juli hat Douglas Laing das Batch 2 vom Gauldrons vorgestellt und Anfang August dann den neuen Rock Oyster – beide aus der Remarkable Regional Malts Serie. Die irische Dingle Distillery bringt ihren Batch #3. Aus Campbeltown kommen ein 14-jähriger Longmorn und ein 12-jähriger Springbank in Fassstärke. Von Highland Park kommt mit Valknut die zweite Abfüllung der Viking Legend Trilogie. Bruichladdich hat mit dialogos die Serie 09 von Octomore für September angekündigt und Aberfeldy stellt zwei Madeira Nachreifungen für den Travel Retail vor.

Gauldrons

Offizielle Tasting Notes

The nose opens with barley sugars, a hint of sea salt and some gentle smokiness. The palate is dry at first with sea air, then developing to muscovado sugar, light oak, and a biscuit character. The finish brings notes of seaweed and late crème brûlée.

Rock Oyster

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „flambéed orange peel, rich earthiness, puffs of drifting peat smoke and salty tang” on the palate and, in classic Douglas Laing style, the maritime Malt is assuredly offered without colouring or chill-filtration, reportedly ensuring that the Scotch Whisky is truly “as natural as it gets”.

Dingle

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Im November 2012 eröffnete seit vielen Jahrzehnten eine neue Destillerie im Westen Irlands am äußersten Zipfel Europas, auf der Halbinsel Dingle. Produziert werden Whiskey, Gin und Vodka. Es war ein monumentaler Moment, als im November 2012 anfing, der erste Tropfen Spirit zu fließen. Es war der erste Whiskey, der außerhalb der großen drei Destillerien produziert wurde. Dingle ist eine kleine Destillerie, die viel Wert auf hohe Qualität legt. Jeden Tag werden nur zwei Fässer produziert. An der Atlantikküste sollen Single Pot Still Whiskeys und Single Malts produziert werden. Dingle produziert auf 3 kupfernen Pot Stills.“

Longrow

Gereift in refill Oloroso Sherry casks.

• Nose: Very fruity! Toffee apples, pears and strawberry chocolates in the background; salted popcorn kernels, mint leaves and honey.
•  Taste: Salty and coastal, the fruitiness continues with raisins, chocolate orange and prunes. A dryness develops with demerara sugar and digestive biscuit.
•  Finish: Drying BBQ spices; cayenne pepper and paprika followed by cinnamon sugar, oats, pecan nuts and the typical gentle Longrow smokiness.

Springbank

Gereift in in 70% Sherry casks und 30% Bourbon casks

Offizielle Tasting Notes

• Nose: A fruity and nutty combination; cherries, apricot jam, pistachios and toasted oats. Salted caramel and marzipan begin to emerge.
•  Taste: Sweet and delicious, Scottish tablet, prunes and honey. The classic Campbeltown style develops; sea salt and a light smoke coat the mouth.
•  Finish: A long and warming finish; honeycomb, orange marmalade and liquorice closely followed by Demerara sugar, almonds, oats and prunes.

Highland Park

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Die überwiegende Lagerung in ehemaligen Sherryfässern aus amerikanischer Eiche sorgt für eine natürliche hellgoldene Farbe. Im Vergleich zu seinem Vorgänger Valkyrie zeichnet sich der neue Single Malt durch eine stärkere Rauchnote aus, die ein intensives Torfaroma hervorbringt. Bei der Herstellung verwendet Highland Park eine geringe Menge an Tartan-Gerste, die auf Orkney angebaut wird. Sie verleiht dem Single Malt seine charakteristische rauchige Note, eine langanhaltende Süße sowie einen würzigen Nachklang.“

• Aroma: geröstete Vanilleschoten, zerstoßener schwarzer Pfeffer, Eichenholzspäne, Gewürznelken, Anis, aromatischer Rauch
• Geschmack: Süße, aromatische Gewürznelken vereint mit herben Noten von würzigem Anis
• Nachklang: Ausgewogen und kräftig, anhaltender Torfrauch und süße Würze

Bruichladdich hat in seinem Newsletter bereits die Serie 09 von Octomore angekündigt. Außer dem Namen gibt es aber nur ein 4-minütiges Werbevideo (ohne Bezug auf die neue Serie)

Aberfeldy

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Two types of Madeira casks were sourced to finish both the 16 and 21-year-old expressions; ex-Malvasia Malmsey – the most famous and also the richest, sweetest style and ex-Bual – dark in colour, with medium-rich texture. These flavourful casks impart classic Madeira notes of caramel, peaches, orange peel and burnt sugar. Maturing ABERFELDY in this combination of Madeira wine casks elevates the maturing malt, heightening the level of complexity and adding the typical honeyed richness of distillery’s house style.“ Zur Dauer gibt es nur einen vagen Hinweis: „Spending up to 12 months“ (d.h. bis zu 12 Monaten, evtl. aber auch weniger).

Für mich sind weder der Preis noch die 40% attraktiv. Mal sehen, wie sich der verkauft.
