Die letzten Tage wurden eine Menge neuer Abfüllungen vorgestellt. Benromach mit einer 20-jährigen Abfüllung das 20-jährige Jubiläum (Wiedereröffnung). Von Douglas Laing gibt es eine Sonderausgabe des Epicurean und die dritte und letzte Yula Abfüllung. Kilchoman bringt den 2018er Loch Gorm und die zweite Ausgabe des Port Cask Matured. Säntis eine Deutschland Ausgabe No. 3 und den Alpstein 14. Bladnoch feiert 200-jähriges Jubiläum obwohl erst kürzlich übernommen und grundsaniert. Die SMWS macht ein Festival-Abfüllungen Battle (10 Fässer!). Und Springbank bringt die drei limitierten jährlichen Abfüllungen von Hazelburn, Longrow und Springbank.

Pour your dram of Benromach 20th Anniversary Bottling and prepare your senses to encounter an experience as rare as this gorgeous whisky. First, lift your glass to the light and appreciate the beautiful deep amber hue created by lingering for many years in first fill oak casks as the whisky grew and matured in character. Take a short inhalation, appreciating the wonderful aromas without water. Enjoy the rich notes of fruit cake, mingling with sweet demerara sugar and vanilla. Underlying hints of zingy citrus and dark chocolate develop with a touch of warm spice.

The Epicurean

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Das einzigartige Rezept für diese spezielle Abfüllung ist das Ergebnis einer Zusammenarbeit zwischen Douglas Laing & Co und einigen der besten Barkeeper und Spirituosenexperten aus Glasgow. Im Februar fand in der Firmenzentrale in Glasgow eine einmalige Veranstaltung statt, bei der 8 Mixologen mit Lowland Single Malts experimentierten, wobei jeder seine eigene unverwechselbare Kreation erschuf, die von Fred Laing, Chairman des Familienunternehmens, beurteilt wurde.“

Original Tasting Notes

• Nase: Zitrusschale, Biskuitkuchen und pochierte Birnen
• Gaumen: Vanillenoten neben Apfelschale, geschnittenem Gras und kandierten Nüssen
• Finish: Karamellcreme vermischt sich mit grünen Früchten und Vollmilchschokolade.

Kilchoman

• Port Cask Matured – 2nd Edition
  This will be the second Port Cask Matured expression we’ve released, the first, launched in 2014 being one of the most talked about Kilchoman releases in the distillery’s history. The 2018 edition is a vatting of thirty ruby port hogsheads filled in 2014, yielding a total of 10,000 bottles. Anthony and the team’s commitment to full term maturation has continued, with the decision to age only in port casks rather than using such barrels for finishing, this gives the whisky an added dimension, with layers of red fruits, creamy vanilla and floral sweetness that flood in with the intensity expected of a 50% abv bottling strength.
• Loch Gorm – 2018 Edition 
  Released alongside the Port Cask Matured is the well-established Loch Gorm release, the exclusively sherry matured limited edition has been a feature of our range since 2012. The 2018 release of 15,000 bottles is made up of nineteen oloroso sherry butts filled in 2007, 2008 and 2011, containing some of the oldest sherry casks ever filled at Kilchoman. The Loch Gorm is the only globally released Kilchoman that is matured solely in sherry casks, with its combination of rich sherry notes, cooked fruits and subtle Islay peat, it’s not surprising that this is one of our best-selling single malts.

Säntis

No. 3 – Offizielle Tasting Notes von Julia Nourney

• Farbe: Dunkles Rotgold
• Nase: Reife Früchte, Brombeer- und schwarze Johannisbeer-Aromen, Birnenschale und herbale Laubnoten, dezent mineralisch, darunter verbirgt sich eine leichte Raucharomatik, die sich fast fleischig wie bei Bacon mit Ahornsirup darstellt, aber auch etwas verkohltes Holz und Tabak zeigt.
• Gaumen: Zunächst hauptsächlich herbal und im ersten Moment sogar etwas harzig, jetzt zeigen sich aber auch deutlich rauchige Qualm-Noten und warme Würzaromen mit etwas Wacholder, außer leicht bitter-süßen Zestennoten sind kaum mehr Fruchtaromen vorhanden.
• Abklang: Der Qualm wird zunehmend öliger, die Rauchnoten intensivieren sich sogar noch, und kleben wie dunkler Kakao am Gaumen.
• Bemerkung: Der Widerspruch zwischen Nase und Gaumen ist sehr interessant. Während die Rauchnoten in der Nase nur diffus erkennbar sind, zeigen sie am Gaumen ihre dominante Seite.

Alpstein XIV – Offizielle Tasting Notes von Julia Nourney

• Farbe: Leuchtendes Kupfer mit goldenen Reflexen
• Nase: Apfelschale, Birnenschale, Bisquit-Teig, würzig-süßlich und weinig, etwas herbal wie frisch getrocknetes Heu, Rum-Rosinen, Vanille, Orangeat, Cocktail-Kirsche, Dörrzwetschge und Zwetschgenmus, sehr dezente Biernote im Hintergrund.
• Gaumen: Röstaromen und Dörrbirne, würzig wie Muskat, Tonkabohne und Kardamom, Vanille und etwas Nelke, dunkle Schokolade gefüllt mit Zwetschgenmarmelade und Marzipan.
• Abklang: Warm und würzig, dabei sehr mundfüllend, insbesondere in der Mitte der Zunge bildet sich ein wärmender Fleck, dabei entwickelt sich ein seidiges Gefühl.
• Bemerkung: Dieser Whisky hat eine ganz außergewöhnliche Komplexität, wie sie wohl noch nie in dieser Intensität bei einer Alpstein-Abfüllung beobachtet werden durfte.

Yula

Der dritte und letzte aus der Trilogie. Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Douglas Laing’s Yula is comprised of several of the Islands’ most sought after, peated Malts, this time aged 22 Years. The Yula series charts the spirit’s journey and celebrates the Laing family’s own proud origins on Islay. Just 900 bottles of Yula’s Third Chapter are available globally.“

Original Tasting Notes

Catch a gentle oceanic salt and ozone clean zephyr as the nose opens – with its later tobacco and leather style. Palatewise, anticipate a complex mix of sweet peat, pepper, coal dust, oak wood smoke and a late-on-the-palate chocolatey sweetness. The long subtle finish initially reflects that dulcet, barley quality but still shows a warmingly spiced, tarred and sooted style.

Bladnoch

Aus der Pressemitteilung: „Matured initially in Oloroso Sherry casks and finished for a further 18 months in Moscatel casks, the Bladnoch Bicentennial Release is bottled at cask strength, without chill filtration – and is for the most discerning of collectors and connoisseurs of momentous single malt creations.“ weiter: „… from barrels of whisky dating back to 1988“ und „These two casks combined made exactly 200 bottles…“

Hazelburn

Limited Edition 2018 – Oloroso Cask Matured, 3-fach destilliert

Original Tasting Notes

• NOSE: Full bodied; creamy and rich with dark chocolate. Rose petals and ginger biscuit snaps with freshly brewed espresso coffee.
• TASTE: Bursting with fresh cream and strawberries, all developing due to the maturation in Oloroso Sherry; Turkish delight, clotted cream, strawberry jam followed by marzipan and walnuts.
• FINISH: Brown sugar, dates and toffee; sticky toffee pudding! Cream coffee liqueur, red apple peels, banana chips, vanilla and black pepper.

Springbank

Limited Edition 2018 – 70% Rum Casks / 30% Bourbon Casks

Original Tasting Notes

• NOSE: A burst of heather and freshly mowed grass followed by honey, pear skin and wood shavings. Hints of butter; cheesecake, fresh cream and digestive biscuit.
• TASTE: Elegant and gentle. Butterscotch and vanilla, sugar cane and molasses develop as the influence from the rum casks engulfs the palate with apricots, peaches and paprika.
• FINISH: A soft smokiness is present in the background. Toffee apples, raisins and oat biscuits emerge. In the foreground; peppercorn, almonds and apricot jam are prominent.

Longrow

Limited Edition 2018 – 60% Sherry Casks / 40% Bourbon Casks

Original Tasting Notes

• NOSE: Elegant and refined. Sea salt and Wakame seaweed followed by pine cones, wood shavings and honey.
• TASTE: Rich and creamy with subtle peat and juicy sweet flavours. Salted popcorn, Tofu, Butterscotch and Vanilla. Tobacco leaf, wood shavings and Black Forest gateau.
• FINISH: Pecan nuts followed by soft peaty embers with dark chocolate and earthy notes.
