Tobermory stoppt Produktion für zwei Jahre – Umbauarbeiten
Manche haben es sicher schon mitbekommen: Tobermory auf der Insel Mull wird am 31.03.2017 die Produktion einstellen – für 24 Monate! Ich habe mal nachgefragt…
Tobermory gehört zur afrikanischen Distell Group, der u.a. auch Deanston und Bunnahabhain gehören. Als führender Hersteller in Afrika für Weine, Spirituosen, Cider, Whisky und „Ready-to-drinks“ hat Distell ein Portfolio von ca. 100 Marken, über 5.000 Mitarbeiter weltweit und einen Jahresumsatz von 1.19 Mrd. GBP. Neben den drei schottischen Destillerien gehört auch eine Abfüllanlage und Offices in East Kilbride sowie Lagerhäuser in Airdrie (beides in der Nähe von Glasgow) zum Unternehmen.
Distell wird in die Tobermory Distillery und das Visitor Center investieren. Die Produktion wird stillgelegt, aber das Visitor Center soll geöffnet bleiben und auch weiterhin Touren anbieten. Obwohl die Produktion stillgelegt wird, sollen die Mitarbeiter soweit wie möglich geschützt werden.
Bei Tobermory werden zur Zeit zwei verschiedene Marken hergestellt: Tobermory und der rauchige Ledaig. Der Verkauf des Ledaig 10yo und 18yo soll weitergehen und auch den Tobermory 10yo wird es noch im Visitor Center geben. In den nächsten zwei Jahren sollen weitere limited Editions beider Marken folgen.

Tobermory has demonstrated even stronger growth in visitors and we want to invest in the only distillery on the island and continue to ensure it produces some of the best island malts in Scotland, as well as a truly memorable experience for visitors. We recognise the time during which the refurbishment is taking place will create substantial change for the distillery team and that is why we have come up with different options to accommodate people’s personal situations and continue to financially support them during this time. We are delighted to have a new General Manager for Malts joining us in the coming weeks who will provide some fresh impetus for our malt portfolio generally and Tobermory and Ledaig specifically. An exciting new chapter will be revealed at the end of this and we want everyone to continue to be part of this journey.“
