Neue Abfüllungen von Tomatin: Contrast & Cù Bòcan Bourbon

Während des diesjährigen Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festivals habe ich Tomatin meinen ersten Besuch abgestattet. Bis vor einiger Zeit fand ich Tomatin nicht so spannend, aber entweder hat sich mein Geschmack verändert oder die Abfüllungen sind interessanter geworden.

Nach meinem ersten Vertical Tasting einiger verschiedener Abfüllungen (den Artikel dazu gibt es hier) war es um mich geschehen. Auch ein Cù Bòcan (Geisterhund) war dabei.

Cù Bòcan Bourbon

Der Bourbon ist der dritte (und letzte) der Dreier-Serie Limited Release Trilogy . Die drei Abfüllungen „Sherry“ (2014), „Virgin Oak“ (2015) und nun „Bourbon“ sind die drei „Einzelbestandteile“ des regulären Cù Bòcan. Unter dem Namen Cù Bòcan erscheinen die rauchigen Whiskys von Tomatin.

Es gibt 6.000 Flaschen weltweit (außer den USA) mit einer UVP von ca. 50.- GBP (ca. 70.- EUR).

Originale Tasting Notes

• AROMA Toffee and honey are prominent. The smoke is distant at first but continues to emerge and then slowly fades to reveal pineapple and pear drops. A rich and creamy vanilla custard lingers.
• PALATE Velvety smooth coconut and vanilla. Milk chocolate covered marshmallows, almonds and toffee. Citrus fruits, especially orange and lime, have a significant presence.
• FINISH Long lasting and sweet.

Contrasting Casks

Auch ein „limited edition pack“ mit dem Namen Contrasting Casks ist auf dem Markt erschienen. Mit den beiden Flaschen kann man einen Vergleich zwischen den Bourbon- und Sherry-Fass gelagerten Whiskys anstellen. Beide 350ml Flaschen sind ein Vatting aus Fässern der Jahre 1973, 1977, 1988, 1991, 2002 und 2006. Abgefüllt mit 46%, non-chill filtered und ohne Zusatz von Zuckerkulör.

Graham Eunson, Tomatin’s Distillery Manager: “It is well accepted that up to 70% of the final flavour of Scotch Whisky is derived from the cask it was matured in. We wanted to directly compare the effect of different casks on the same whisky – the actual contrast between these two whiskies is far greater than we had anticipated. These are two incredible whiskies which consumers will enjoy comparing side by side in their own home.”

Es gibt insgesamt 5.400 der Pakete weltweit mit einer UVP von 100.- GBP (ca. 140.- EUR).

Tasting Notes – Bourbon Matured

• AROMA Golden syrup and honey. Lemon & lime. Almond and macadamia nuts, vanilla and custard.
• PALATE Sweet vanilla custard and lemon sponge. Pineapple chunks, raspberries and icing sugar.
• FINISH Sweet, fresh and mellow.

Tasting Notes – Sherry Matured

• AROMA Toffee-apple crumble, Christmas pudding, raisins and treacle.
• PALATE Cinnamon and cloves, peppercorns. Thick cut marmalade.
• FINISH Oily, spicy and chewy.
