GLENGOYNE TO OPEN RARE 50 YEAR OLD WHISKY AT SOMEONE’S SPECIAL MOMENT IN 2021

Tue 17th November: Glengoyne Whisky has today announced the launch of its oldest ever expression – a 50 Year Old Highland Single Malt – and is offering whisky lovers a unique opportunity to savour this rare whisky in 2021.

Priced at £22,500 and with only 150 decanters available in the world, the limited-edition single malt is the pinnacle of the distillery’s unhurried and uncompromising approach to whisky making, as Scotland’s slowest distilled malt. After five decades patiently maturing, this exceptional whisky has a richness and depth of aromas and flavours rarely encountered.

Proving that great whisky should be enjoyed whatever its age, Glengoyne has taken the unique decision to give away a special decanter of this incredibly high aged, rare whisky in 2021. After what’s been a difficult and disruptive year across the globe, the distillery will be making a moment with friends or family extra special for one group in 2021.

An online ballot has opened for groups of five or more friends or family to submit an entry alongside a description of their perfect moment for savouring the Glengoyne 50 Year Old together next year. Whether it’s toasting a delayed celebration, or creating an unforgettable reunion, the Glengoyne team will make their special moment a reality, hand-delivering the highly sought-after whisky for one group to enjoy and savour, in good company.

Entrants have until Monday 14th December to gather their groups and submit their moments.

Robbie Hughes, Master Distiller at Glengoyne Highland Single Malt, said“When we first filled hand-selected oak casks with our sweet, fruity, new make spirit back in the late 1960s, The Beatles were only just breaking up, Richard Nixon was US President, and Sesame Street debuted on television. A lot has changed while we’ve been waiting patiently for this unique release. At Glengoyne we believe that patience is always rewarded. This year we’ve all had to sacrifice spending time with our loved ones or delay celebrations. That’s why we want to make these moments extra special in 2021 with a memorable whisky that, after waiting so long for just the right moment, is truly ready to be opened and savoured.”

Glengoyne 50 Year Old comes in a special crystal decanter, which features an engraved goose emblem representing the geese who migrate to the Glen each winter. Hidden within the beautiful solid oak and gold display box is also a 25ml sample of the 50 Year Old whisky*, as well as individually hand numbered books which are hand signed by Robbie Hughes, the Distillery Manager.

Available from next week, this extremely limited-edition release will join a new 30 Year Old Glengoyne and the present 25 Year Old whisky, as part of the distillery’s new ‚Fine and Rare‘ range. Both whiskies are presented in beautiful glass bottles, with wooden embellishments and boxes that feature an industry-first second use, encouraging the drinker to personalise the box and remove the inner fitments, ready to cradle another keepsake once the whisky has been enjoyed to the last drop. The move comes as part of Glengoyne’s wider commitment to sustainability.

Glengoyne recently announced a brand-new look and feel across its entire portfolio. The new design celebrates the brand’s unique connection to time as Scotland’s slowest distilled malt, unhurried since 1833, which helps create its gloriously sweet, fruity spirit. As part of the distillery’s long-standing commitment to sustainability and the future, the wider Glengoyne Collection (10 Year Old – 21 Year Old whiskies) is now fully recyclable, free of plastic and magnets, and locally sourced, with nearly all of the material originating from Scotland.
